    Description of Work Unit

    The College of Business at Colorado State University is an AACSB accredited business school which enrolls more than 2,600 undergraduate students in eleven business concentrations and approximately 1,500 graduate students across multiple graduate programs. While we are the largest undergraduate and graduate major on campus, we strive to create a small college environment.

     

    The College of Business Career Management Center ( CMC ) provides comprehensive career services to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, of Colorado State University’s College of Business. Services include career counseling, career assessment, resource development, internship and job search assistance, hosting employer engagement and recruiting events, instruction of career development courses and groups, marketing and outreach that facilitates student and employer connection, and cultivating employer relationships that lead to successful career outcomes for students.

    Position Summary

    The Career Counselor is a member of the Career Counseling Team that works with undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni, on the career management process. The Career Counselor incorporates knowledge of the career development process in their work with students and alumni, including career development theory and practices, career readiness competencies, labor market and hiring trends, interview skills, resume and cover letter techniques, and strategies to secure internships and jobs, among other relevant approaches. This position supports, guides, and trains students and alumni in both individual and group interactions. This includes the development, coordination, and delivery of student workshops, class presentations, and potential for career courses and group experiences.

     

    The Career Counselor uses foundational skills to work individually with students of varying experience levels, academic focus, career interests and goals. This includes international students, underrepresented student communities, adult and veteran learners, and first-generation students, among others.

     

    As a member of the Career Management Center, the career counselor is a collaborative member of the staff. They contribute to team and departmental meetings, strategic initiatives, career readiness resource development, career fair and event staffing, and potential for program management.

     

    The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the Career Management Center unit will not provide visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Master’s degree in a relevant area, such as career counseling, student affairs/administration in higher education, business, human resources, or related field.

    + Minimum of 2 years of professional experience (may include relevant internships).

    + Experience in the career development field or career services in higher education.

    + Experience applying relevant theories, approaches, and/or practices related to career counseling, career development, and/or student development.

    + The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the Career Management Center unit will not provide visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Career development experience working with business students.

    + Guide students/alumni related to career pathing, industry and labor market information and trends, specifically related to CSU College of Business concentration and graduate program areas.

    + Develop, conduct, and interpret informal and formal career assessments, including CliftonStrengths and CareerLeader.

    + Assess student needs and make appropriate referrals as needed, including resources within and outside of the university.

    + Engage in the Career Management Center’s team approach to establishing

    + goals, planning events, facilitating career fairs and networking functions, refining programs, developing new resources, conducting class and group presentations, and teaching career management-related courses.

    + Develop career resource content for the Career Management Center’s website (bizcareers.colostate.edu), online learning platforms, social media, email newsletters, and career guides. Topics addressed could include career exploration in business, internship processes, targeted job searching, offer negotiation, resume and cover letter creation, interviewing, building social capital, career-relevant social media strategies, AI and the future of work, and career and life design.

    + Partner as needed on Career Management Center programs, such as Mentoring Program, Professional Development Fund, international student programming, etc.

    + Actively participate in Career Management Center shared responsibilities to produce high-quality events, such as Career Fairs, Recruiter Resume Revisions, Career Meetups, etc.

    + Attend and be an active contributor to departmental team and staff meetings.

    + Effectively participate in the development and nurturing of relationships with Career Management Center stakeholders, including employer partners, prospective employers, university career services partners, and internal College of Business faculty and staff.

    + Deliver workshops and presentations on career development topics in group settings, including business classes, student club and organization meetings, and Career Management Center hosted sessions.     + Engage varied audiences through mediums that include in-person, video, webinar, and others as relevant.

    + Share in the Career Management Center’s teaching of current, and potential career development and readiness courses and mini-courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
