Description of Job
This position assists the Area 7 office with day-to-day Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)/ Mandatory Checks reporting work within the mandatory check office, as well as other duties as assigned. The technician will be trained in extracting samples for CWD testing and checking in hunter harvested wildlife. The technician will interact with the public on a regular basis and will need to be able to work in inclement weather conditions. Other duties will include assisting with other day-to-day operations such as the front office, aquatic operations, biological surveys, habitat improvement projects, and law enforcement ride-along.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Answering customer questions and concerns
• Safe equipment handling (power tools, knives, survey equipment, etc.)
• Packaging and distributing CWD and Mandatory check samples to the correct locations
• Work with Law Enforcement in identifying possible violations at the check station
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment (tables, tools, freezers, etc.)
• Basic computer skills including using mapping software and CPW's computer applications
• Being able to handle foul odors and dead carcasses
UNIFORMS:
The office will provide uniform items.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a current & valid drivers' license
• The work-site will provide some uniform items, however the employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
• Applicants may be subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
• Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week.
• Must be available to work occasional weekends and holidays.
• Must be available to work varied shifts
• Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
• Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft office, google products, Apple products)
• Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.
• Must be willing and able to climb in and out of vehicles and trailers to perform job functions.
• Must be willing and able to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
• Must be able to lift 50-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday.
Work location is AREA 7, Mesa and Garfield Counties, Colorado
Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W0g2QAGmusbXBJzL3HxhGitIZOEKnwhrFnx9GqVcQHA/preview?tab=t.0) , any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.
To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who:
+ Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
+ Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
+ Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
