    Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Responsibilities You will serve as an ANTENNA MECHANIC in the ANTENNA DIVISION (N32) of the NCTAMSLANT DETACHMENT located in CUTLER, ME. You will inspect and repair guy anchor ground, check the guy tension, check tower profiles and adjust the 26' tall tower guy tensions. You will replace defective jumpers in the cross-arm section, inspect and repair through bushing. You will inspect and repair helix coils, variometers helix house wood structures, and helix house ground connections. You will perform the maintenance and repairs to antenna panels, ground system components and sea terminals. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: Experience directing the raising or lowering of an antenna panel and reading blueprints and work from sketches. Experience using hand tools, small power tools, power assist equipment, and motor vehicle equipment. Experience working assignments and making sound decisions after exhausting climbing on the VLF towers. Experience operating heavy equipment such as drum hoists, category 4 cranes, bulldozers, backhoe, forklift and bucket truck. Must meet licensing requirements. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. The incumbent must be able to climb steel towers up to 980 feet in height while carrying his/her trade tools. Incumbent will be on their feet almost continuously and required to work while supported by a safety belt, with portable radio as their only contact with foreman. Most work assignments will be performed outside, and the incumbent must be able to withstand cold, wet weather. The incumbent is required to work in fields of radiation approximately 50% of the time. Mechanic must ever be cognizant of the potential danger to personnel from both direct and indirect RF fields. CPR is a requirement for this position. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
