    Range 24 ($5,350.77 – $7,026.74) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule (https://www.sdccd.edu/docs/HumanResources/employee%20relations/Salary%20Schedules/Classified%20Salary%20Schedule%202024.pdf) . New employees will begin on Step E ($5,350.77). Step placement is non-negotiable. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA . This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent Benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE ) and all eligible dependents. A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment.     Applications are currently being accepted for Instructional Lab Technician/Chemistry in the School of Math & Science, located at San Diego Mesa College. This is a 100% assignment (40 hours per week) for 12 months of each fiscal year. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department’s needs. Currently there is a need for coverage of evening labs which ends at 10 pm. Individuals who have completed Chemistry courses within the San Diego Community College District are strongly encouraged to apply.

     

    Under the direction of the Department Chairperson and Dean, the Instructional Laboratory Technician ( ILT ) performs a variety of technical and specialized duties related to the preparation, operation and maintenance of chemistry academic classroom laboratories and related areas; assists faculty in the use and maintenance of chemical laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, pH probes and volt meters; prepares standard solutions to scale for a classroom experiment.

     

    Please note that this assignment may include day and evening work schedules. This position does NOT include any teaching duties.

    Desired Qualifications

    Major factors to be evaluated for this position include:

    + An associate degree in chemistry or a closely related field or equivalent

    + Successful work experience in chemistry or other science laboratories

    + Knowledge and experience in utilizing laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, and volt meters

    + Knowledge and experience in performing laboratory solution preparation

    A successful candidate must demonstrate the skills and ability to:

    + Follow complex instructions

    + Use initiative and problem-solving skills

    + Maintain equipment and instruments

    + Maintain the chemical inventory as required by local state and federal regulations

    + Handle hazardous materials including proper chemical waste management

    + Keep detailed, precise records, including data entry

    + Order and receive equipment and supplies

    + Plan and organize work independently

    + Train and furnish work direction to others

    + Meet schedules and timelines

    + Demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy

    + Communicate in a clear and concise manner

    Conditions of Employment:

    SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT :

    + Submit “official” college transcripts as stated on application (even if a degree is not a requirement for this position);

    + Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);

    + Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the District’s expense (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment);

    + Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States as required by the I9 Employment Eligibility Verification form; AND ,

    + Attend a new hire processing appointment in People, Culture, and Technology Services located at the District Administrative Offices.
