Position Summary
The City of Bozeman is now accepting applications for an Assistant Streets Superintendent to support our Streets and Signs & Signals Team. Help keep the city moving smoothly by overseeing street maintenance, snow removal, and traffic operations.
Bargaining Unit: Not Represented

Work Week: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
+ Participates in the direction and supervision of personnel involved in the activities of the City’s Streets Department;
+ Establishes organizational units within the division and designates personnel to operate and supervise each unit, under the direction of the Streets Superintendent;
+ Works closely with other Streets supervisory personnel to promote positive work attitudes within the division and maximize teamwork and cooperation by all departmental employees;
+ Works with the Streets Superintendent in the development of goals and plans for the identification and evaluation of the Department needs;
+ Oversees the implementation of work programs designed to meet the annual and long-term objectives of the Department as directed by the Streets Superintendent;
+ Participates in preparing, implementing, and reviewing the Department’s annual budget and maintaining related reports and records as required;
+ Provides professional work to plan, schedule, and monitor construction, maintenance, and repair work on City Lands, facilities, and equipment using the City’s computerized maintenance management system;
+ Schedules construction, repair and maintenance work using the City’s computerized maintenance management system (Cityworks);
+ Creates and updates Cityworks work order and templates and maintains current and accurate data on materials, equipment and labor costs;
+ Works closely with the City’s Cityworks database administrator to troubleshoot and resolve problems and continually enhance the system to improve operation efficiency and accurate cost tracking;
+ Specifies, installs and maintains computerized vehicle location and remote machine monitoring equipment to improve fleet productivity;
+ Integrates remote vehicle and machine monitoring information into Cityworks to improve scheduling and operating efficiency;
+ Provides training to streets crews on the use of Cityworks and on the use of vehicle location and machine monitoring equipment;
+ Works closely with the Streets Superintendent to ensure all work activities are in compliance with City codes and policies and State directives;
+ Acts as a liaison between the Division and local residents, contractors, business representatives, government agencies, and other related professionals to ensure positive public relations;
+ Participates in the revision of departmental operations and procedures to stay abreast of changing trends and practices in the Streets field and meets the changing needs of the City;
+ Serves as the Streets Superintendent in his/her absence;
+ Addresses citizens’ concerns or complaints and takes appropriate action to ensure a timely resolution or citizen satisfaction;
+ Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees;
+ Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
+ Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
+ Confers with the Streets Superintendent, City officials, contractors, and others in regards to any related divisional matters as necessary;
+ Performs other duties consistent with the role and function of this classification.
Minimum Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Construction Technology, Engineering, or a closely related field; and
+ At least 3-5 years of increasingly responsible experience in a related maintenance management position, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity, preferably in the public sector; or
+ Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Comprehensive knowledge of advanced principles and practices of related Streets administration, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance activities;
+ Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of construction methods and materials as applied to Streets operations;
+ Comprehensive knowledge of economics and municipal finance as applied to Streets;
+ Comprehensive knowledge of current applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations relating to public works programs and operations;
+ Comprehensive knowledge of related work equipment used in assigned division;
+ Ability to effectively coordinate, lead, motivate, and supervise the work of divisional personnel;
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees, supervisory personnel, property owners, business representatives, developers, contractors, architects, and the general public;
+ Ability to effectively resolve employee problems in a fair and diplomatic manner;
+ Ability to establish goals, objectives, and plans for the division, encompassing short, intermediate, and long-term operations;
+ Ability to effectively organize work, maintain organizational structure, and delegate authority;
+ Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
+ Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;
+ Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations;
+ Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks;
+ Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;
+ Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
+ Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
+ Knowledge of Cityworks or other computerized maintenance management systems and the ability to utilize the system to plan, schedule and monitor construction and maintenance work;
+ Knowledge and experience in installing electronic monitoring and control equipment in vehicles;
+ Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
Required Special Qualifications
+ Valid Driver's License;
+ May require an appropriate level commercial driver's license;
