    Purpose:

    The UPMC supply chain organization has the primary responsibility to manage all commercial aspects of UPMC's spend portfolio. This responsibility includes managing the commercial strategies for all global spend to ensure that UPMC receives the greatest value for the company. The Director of Strategic Sourcing position exists to provide strategic direction, guidance and accountability for the management of the spend portfolio for all UPMC businesses.

    Responsibilities:

    + Drive and deliver competitive advantage and cost savings for UPMC by managing the execution of a comprehensive commodity management approach that includes in-depth global market analysis as part of the overall detailed strategic sourcing plan.

    + Develop short- and long-term plans and improvement projects for the spend portfolio to effectively manage UPMC's commercial position and deliver measurable value. Success in this area will be achieved by beating the market competition and providing a competitive advantage for UPMC.

    + Establish a strategic category structure and corresponding commodity strategies and plans to execute UPMC requirements in the supply market and deliver the highest value through total cost of ownership solutions to the business.

    + Ensure alignment and interface with other organizations to effectively execute commodity and sourcing strategies and tactics.

    + Interface with business leadership to ensure that effective spend management of the spend portfolio occurs at all levels of the organization and that business requirements and needs are met.

    + Work with user group to identify and qualify lower cost alternative products and services.

    + Continually identify and enhance data and reporting capabilities. Make it easier to access, use, and act upon data. Standardize data approach and reporting across Sourcing functional units.

    + Assess and select possible tools, sourcing technology consolidation opportunities, and increase efficiency and usage of current technologies.

    + Interface with external IT business leaders and internal Sourcing stakeholders to collect feedback and end user needs and drive technology selection/adoption.

    + Document process improvement and operational excellence opportunities.

    + Create work instructions for all standard tasks.

    + Standardize approach to sourcing engagements and executive interactions.

    + Develop standard language and approach for Sourcing Professional and reduce reliance on tribal knowledge.

    + Ensure robust supplier management and improvement programs exist and are consistent across commodity groups.

    + Drive the Supplier relationship activity to ensure continuous quality and delivery of supply to meet business demands.

    + Establish supply chain contingency plans for sole source or critical items to prevent supply interruption.

    + Interface with business leadership to ensure that effective spend management of the spend portfolio occurs at all levels of the organization and that business requirements and needs are met.

    + Analyze Operational procedures and recommend changes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

    + Maintain and compile summary reports on Supply Chain Operations activities for Executives.

    + Actively participate in the implementation of new services and programs.

    + Actively participate in the enforcement of all policies, rules, regulations as promulgated by the Chief Supply Chain Officer.

    + Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or Supply Chain Management and (10) ten years' experience in progressively higher value and complex procurement/sourcing required.

    + Strong procurement & sourcing skills required.

    + Minimum of 5 years healthcare experience is preferred.

    + Advanced degree in Healthcare or Business Administration or similar (MS, JD, etc.) is preferred.

    + ISM (Institute for Supply Management) CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager), and/or APICS (American Production & Inventory Control Society) and/or CIRM (Certified in Integrated Resource Management) is desired. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Professional certifications (CPM, APICS) preferred. **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
