    Catheterization Laboratory Assistant (Non-RCIS)

    A Brief Overview

     

    The Catheterization Laboratory Assistant, under the direct supervision of a physician or Catheterization Laboratory Technologist - RCIS, assists with and/or performs all routine diagnostic and emergent therapeutic angiographic or catheterization procedures. Assures equipment is functioning properly. Produces and evaluates data, information and images used by the physician in the performance of the procedure. Assists team members in all aspects of patient care, monitoring patients' vital signs, interpreting status information and performing functioning in one or more of the following: monitor, scrub, or circulating technologist. Educates patients, family members and catheterization team. Stocks inventory and all other duties as assigned.

    What you will do

    + Tests equipment for proper functioning and availability.

    + Assists the RN/Physician with proper positioning of the patient.

    + Ensures appropriate supplies are available for the physician.

    + Appropriately notified the Circulator regarding a break in sterilization or aseptic technique.

    + Participates in physician updates.

    + Actively participate in procedural time-out

    Education Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or GED and must be and/or be actively working towards a graduate of a certificate, diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, Paramedic/EMT, or nursing). Have one year full-time work experience in invasive cardiovascular technology and 600* cardiac diagnostic/interventional procedures in their career which are defined as work experience and/or clinical experience gained during a formal educational program. (*IMPORTANT: If an individual’s procedures were completed during a formal educational program, then those procedures completed WOULD count toward the minimum of 600 diagnostic/interventional procedures under qualification RCIS235-2013.) Required or

    + High School Diploma or GED and must be and/or be actively working towards a graduate of a NON-programmatically accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology which has a minimum of one year of specialty training and includes a minimum of 800 clinical hours* in the specialty in which the examination is being requested. (*IMPORTANT: If an individual’s clinical hours were completed after graduation or if the hours are not a requirement for their educational program, then those hours WOULD NOT count toward the 800-hour minimum under qualification RCIS5. All clinical hours must be earned in a setting in which patients are being tested or medically treated.) Required

    Experience Qualifications

    + Minimum one (1) year experience in current credentialed discipline (formal educational program clinical hours are considered) Required

    + Experience with physiological monitoring systems and sterile scrub technique Required

    Skills and Abilities

    + Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitoring

    + Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology

    + Excellent communication skills

    + Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments

    + Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

    + Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills

    + Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask

    Licenses and Certifications

    + Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist - Cardiovascular Credentialing International within one year of hire or have submitted to test with CCI Required

    + If obtaining certification within one year of employment, employee must have completed 600 cardiac diagnostic/interventional procedures. Provide letter of recommendation/verification from the TH Catheterization Laboratory Medical Director. If RCIS testing is unsuccessful, employee must retest within 90 days. A maximum of three (3) RCIS testing attempts allowed and timeframe must not exceed 635 days from hire. After three (3) unsuccessful RCIS attempts, employee will be allowed to transfer to another qualified position within 14 days or removed from payroll Required

    + Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association within 60 Days Required

    + Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation within 120 Days Required

    + Current national registry/certification if an Allied Health professional. Required

    + Registered Nurse - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation in good standing, if RN professional Required

    + Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required

    + Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 120 Days Required
