Purpose:
The VP, Corporate Development manages origination, underwriting and execution of inorganic transactions (e.g., M&A, reinsurance and other forms of strategic investment) in support of Athene’s strategy, across both U.S. and Asian insurance markets. The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of a transaction lifecycle and pipeline development. Key activities include: business development, conducting financial analysis / evaluation, leading and managing due diligence & deal underwriting, structuring, developing investment memos for internal governance, interfacing with internal and external senior leaders, and participating in post-closing deal integration.
Accountabilities:
+ Drive end to end execution of strategic transactions including M&A and reinsurance deals. Lead project management, coordinate internal and external workstreams, and ensure timely, high-quality outcomes.
+ Analyze due diligence materials, including detailed actuarial information in partnership with Athene’s actuarial pricing team; lead cross organizational project teams through due diligence and assimilation processes
+ Identify and implement structural enhancements to optimize deal economics and strategic fit.
+ Lead the preparation of internal deal documents, such as the Transaction Memorandum and materials to ensure alignment with internal governance processes
+ Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders including senior leadership at Athene and Apollo, investment banks, legal counsel, and counterparties. Negotiate legal documentation, facilitate successful deal execution; lead internal pipeline updates
+ Support and lead development of the transaction pipeline. Prepare and present compelling pitch materials to drive new business opportunities.
+ Cultivate relationships with prospective clients, strategic partners, and external advisors to support long-term growth initiatives.
+ Partner and engage with key stakeholders across the organization to support the development and implementation of new transactions
+ Foster a collaborative team environment and support the development of junior team members through coaching and mentorship.
Qualifications and Experience:
+ 6+ years of experience in the life insurance or reinsurance industry or investment banking background with significant experience in the financial services or insurance
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, and Economics is preferred. Strong quantitative capabilities are required
+ 6+ years of demonstrated leadership experience and proven track record of leading complex transactions and cross-functional teams
+ Strategic thinker, intellectually curious, detail-oriented, high integrity, and a collaborative team player.
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
+ Advanced user of Microsoft Office with deep understanding of financial modeling, actuarial analysis, and transaction economics.
+ Ability and willingness to travel, potentially with short notice, and work across multiple time zones
+ Strong understanding of and commitment to maintaining discretion in all business matters.
+ Team player with strong work ethic, high quality character, and willingness to develop junior team members
$185,760.00 - $278,640.00 USD Annual
Annual Salary for this role is market competitive. Actual salary for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Depending on the role, a discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may be included.
