    JOB OVERVIEW:

    With independent judgment, engineering knowledge and technical ability, plans, coordinates, trains, mentors, and manages a team of quality engineers to execute tasks efficiently, Right-The-First Time, On-Time, and On-Budget.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manages the Program and Manufacturing Quality Engineering group.

    • Manages small project teams to develop, execute and complete assignments.

    • Organizes team roles and evaluates employee performance.

    • Documents operational tasks and reporting to upper-level management.

    • Performs employee reviews and assessments.

    • Continually assesses program requirements and staffing resources to ensure on-time-delivery and customer satisfaction.

    • Assists with new employee onboarding and training program.

    • Focuses on Program Quality metrics in accordance with contractual requirements and quality department performance priorities.

    • Facilitates compliance to applicable internal and external requirements during both the development cycle and production phase for various defense/military related products.

    • Evaluates the experience and ability of each quality engineer to make the most effective program assignments.

    • Develops goals and objectives for each quality engineer in support of the annual performance review process; goals and objectives should include company, department, and individual metrics.

    • Assists in the AS9100 third party quality system and on-site customer audits.

    • Serves as the primary CRB (Change Review Board), and CIB (Change Implementation Board) representative for quality.

    • Maintains contact with customers on all quality issues.

    • Participates in the periodic Corrective and Preventive Action Board (CPAB).

    • Drives closure of Corrective Actions led by quality engineers and ensures verification of effectiveness.

    • Participates in the preparation of Management Review material and publishes quality performance reports.

    • Reviews shipping documentation with quality assurance engineers to ensure accuracy, standardization, and that all elements of the contract have been met.

    • Assists the management team and provides engineering support as necessary throughout all program phases; proposal, contract review, development, first article, production, shipment, and warranty returns.

    • Establishes and maintains product assurance standards, procedures, and controls.

    • Has and provides signature authority for certificates of conformance, ammunition data cards, non-destructive testing, and related shipping documents.

    • Promotes the use of statistical techniques for determining product reliability, sample sizes, process capability & control.

    • Works with the program teams to provide quality engineering support for various products that are either in production, or in development leading to near term introduction.

    • Develops, implements, and monitors product quality plans to ensure that specifications and customer expectations will be met.

    • Prepares the budget for the quality engineering labor hours and basis of estimate for all proposals following established procedures and methods to assess risks.

    • Ensures compliance to QMS procedures related to customer processes, and assists in the improvement of the QMS.

    • Drives Lean Quality initiatives in the factories in collaboration with the quality engineers and other cross-functional members of the organization.

    • Monitors manufacturing quality performance and reviews status of quality improvement activities and quality countermeasures to mitigate risks for non-conformities.

    • Identifies training needs for the Quality Engineering Team and plans accordingly.

    • Works hands-on with team members, creating and implementing various strategies and plans to improve quality performance and ensure on-time delivery of Program Quality CDRLs.

    • Performs updates and presentations to the leadership team.

    • Follow standard practices and safety procedures.

    • Strictly adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

    COOPERATION

    This role requires collaboration across internal teams and with external stakeholders.

    LEVEL OF DECISION MAKING

    This position requires daily autonomous decision-making capabilities when working with both internal and external customers.

    SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required:

    • Bachelors Degree (B.S) in Engineering (Mechanical, Physics, Materials, or Aerospace), and a Master's Degree (M.S.) in engineering.

    • Ten or more years of related experience in quality with project engineering or manufacturing engineering within a manufacturing environment in the Aerospace/Defense Industry.

    • Knowledge of weapon systems, energetic materials /parts/systems design and manufacturing.

    • Ability to gain BATF approval

     

    Preferred certificates are Certified Quality Engineer (ASQ), Certified Reliability Engineer (ASQ), Greenbelt certification, AS9100D Internal Auditor certification.
