Salary: $68,000 - $70,000
The Title VI Specialist will assist in ensuring Binghamton University's compliance with federal, state, and local non-discrimination laws, with a focus on Title VI and directly reports to the Title VI Coordinator (Affirmative Action Officer) in the Office of Equity and Access within the Division of Diversity Equity and Inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Data Management and Documentation
+ Assist with the maintenance and management of a privileged database documenting all complaints, incidents, or actions potentially falling under Title VI, in consultation with the Title VI Coordinator
+ Monitor the system of records for trends pertaining to hostile environment under Title VI
+ Case Management
+ Assist the Title VI coordinator in facilitating determinations on case findings; in collaboration with the Title VI Committee, assess factors to determine when or if hostile environment exists under Title VI.
+ Assist with the maintenance of comprehensive and confidential records of inquiries, complaints, investigations, and resolutions.
+ Complaint Oversight
+ Responsible for assisting with Title VI investigations and bias incident reports including but not limited to; student/student conflict, social media, anonymous reports to ensure that all complaints are:
+ Investigated in a timely manner by each relevant department, where appropriate
+ Properly documented in the Title VI privileged database
+ Reviewed by the Title VI Committee
+ Collaboration and Campus Engagement
+ Work closely with the Title VI Coordinator and the Title VI Committee to determine services for community members affected by potential Title VI violations.
+ Engage all campus constituents to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws.
+ Training and Professional Development
+ Attend trainings relevant to Title VI (e.g. SUNY, Student Conduct Institute, etc.)
+ Assist with the development and dissemination of training, education, and related resource materials on Title VI rights and responsibilities for the campus community, including but not limited to;
+ Title VI Committee members
+ University faculty and staff
+ Students
Job Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree with least with 5 years of experience in policy compliance, human resources investigations, or related work
+ Experience in mediation or other similar forms of alternative dispute resolution training
+ Strong analytical, investigation and case management skills
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
+ Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement in sensitive situations
+ Ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the university
Preferred:
+ Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
+ Experience in higher education
