Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room at the University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank located in Minneapolis, MN.

This is a .9 FTE (72 hours per two work pay period), 12 hour shifts, benefits-eligible opening.

We’re offering a $6750 sign-on bonus along with a generous relocation bonus up to $5,000! This is a Night and Weekend only position. The schedule will be Friday, Saturday, Sunday 1845-0715.

This is not a role for a new grad Surgical Technologist. We are looking for someone with at least two years of experience with a wide variety of service line knowledge.

The overnight Surgical Technologist does any urgent or emergent cases that are added. If there are no cases there are other duties that will ensure the day shift is set up for a successful day.

As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.

As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for:

+ Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.

+ Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.

+ Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.

+ Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.

+ Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.

+ Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.

+ Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.

+ Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.

+ Following appropriate action in emergency situations.

Required Qualifications:

+ Complete one of the following by hire date:

+ Military Surgical Assistant; OR

+ LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR

+ Surgical Technologist training

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program

+ AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire

+ 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience

Other Required Skills:

+ Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.

+ Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.

Desired Skills:

+ Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.

+ Ability to work well under a team environment.
