    Job Summary

    The Supervisor, Surgical Services oversees daily operations of the Surgery and Central Sterile departments to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. This role involves coordinating surgical schedules, supervising clinical and non-clinical staff, and managing resources effectively. The Supervisor collaborates with surgeons, nursing staff, and leadership to optimize workflows, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and support the professional development of team members. This position serves as a resource and provides leadership in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director of Surgical Services.

    Essential Functions

    + Supervises and evaluates compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to established standards.

    + Oversees and assists with staff scheduling, including approving time-off requests, managing on-call schedules, and assigning daily staff coverage to meet operational needs.

    + Acts as a liaison between physicians, charge nurses, and the surgical team to facilitate effective communication and coordination of care.

    + Participates in patient care as needed, providing support during emergency situations and ensuring safe, efficient care delivery.

    + Provides guidance, information, and supervision to charge nurses, team leaders, and staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

    + Assesses staff knowledge, skills, and competencies, assisting with training, professional development, and performance evaluations.

    + Collaborates with team leaders to complete annual staff evaluations and coordinates ongoing education and training programs.

    + Keeps the Director and Assistant Director informed of departmental activities, personnel issues, and patient conditions, escalating concerns as necessary.

    + Conducts daily safety huddles, prepares statistical and productivity reports, and ensures efficient workflow in the Surgery and Central Sterile Departments.

    + Plans and coordinates the surgery schedule, considering physician availability, staff resources, and skill levels to ensure optimal operations.

    + Ensures accurate and thorough documentation of patient care, departmental activities, and compliance with regulatory standards.

    + Supports the orientation and onboarding of new employees, collaborating with OR Education to ensure staff receive appropriate training.

    + Delegates responsibilities within the scope of personnel abilities, ensuring tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.

    + Monitors the maintenance and availability of surgical instruments and equipment, working closely with the Central Sterile team to address any deficiencies.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    + Complies with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    + Associate Degree in Nursing required

    + Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred

    + 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience in perioperative or surgical services required

    + 1-3 years of experience in a supervisory position in the Operating Room preferred

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Strong clinical knowledge of surgical services, including workflows, equipment, and infection prevention protocols.

    + Effective leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and develop staff and maintain positive team dynamics.

    + Proficiency in coordinating surgical schedules and managing operational resources.

    + Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely resolution of issues.

    + Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with physicians, staff, and leadership.

    + Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards applicable to surgical services.

    + Analytical and problem-solving skills to address operational and patient care challenges.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required

    + BCLS - Basic Life Support required

    + ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required

    + CNOR - Certified Operating Room Nurse preferred
