    This job helps REI succeed by acting as a process leader and specialist during the design and delivery phases of the large, cross-divisional, multi-year program called “Merchandise Planning Transformation” (MPT). This program involves major technology and business process changes for REI Co-op’s merchandising area. It is a key foundation for the Co-op’s daily operations and future strategic plans. The Business Process Manager Lead will help develop and design processes that enable teams to meet business goals as well as manage the supporting business resources for the program. This role will initially focus on the demand planning space, while also ensuring alignment and integration with adjacent merchandise planning functions, including assortment planning, allocation and replenishment, merchandise financial planning, and supply planning.

     

    The Business Process lead will work with Merchandising & Co-op Brands teams, Information Technology, the MPT program team, vendors (including technology vendors and consulting partners), and the REI business community. This role helps develop processes, systems, and reports during our transformation journey. The Lead balances best leading practice expertise with knowledge of current Merchandising applications, processes, and workflows. This lead helps guide future solution design with curiosity, a focus on key requirements and ability to challenge effectively. This person uses an understanding of business goals, processes, and operations, along with technical skills and a process improvement mindset. The Lead delivers capabilities and insights that shape transformation program recommendations. This person models and acts according to REI’s guiding values, competencies, and mission.

    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    + Manages and participates in business process design. Advocates for business users and understands industry-leading best practices across multiple merchandising disciplines. Enables these best practices.

    + Understand business process related configuration in the technology solution in order to opine on technology enablement

    + Oversee business testing and business cutover as part of large implementation programs, including gathering and validating test cases and traceability

    + Work closely with Change Management on identifying change impacts and providing recommendations for change management

    + Overseeing critical business documentation as it pertains to business processes, roles, and responsibilities

    + Supports the use of industry leading practices, company programs, procedures, and methods. Promotes REI’s business strategies and growth targets.

    + Develop and maintain a complete working knowledge of Merchandising & Co-op Brands current and future processes, procedures, and applications.

    + Guide business or subject matter expert workshops, working sessions interviews for requirements gathering sessions

    + Interprets business needs. Builds business requirements or user stories. Guides solution development for Merchandising & Co-op Brands teams.

    + Build, align and communicate business cases and project value propositions at all levels of the organization.

    + Prepare requirements, functional specifications, user stories, business processes, and requests for proposals (RFPs) associated with Merchandising & Co-op Brands projects.

    + Participates in evaluation of technology solutions.

    + Recommends implementation strategies, timelines and resource requirements to achieve business goals.

    + Manage and execute medium to large projects with cross-divisional partners, especially Merchandising and Co-op Brands Information Technology (IT).

    + Participate in all project status meetings as the business manager. Attend daily stand-ups, sprint retrospectives, and sprint demonstrations for Agile projects. Join other project meetings as needed.

    + Accountable for meeting all project deadlines, milestones, release dates and schedules.

    + May function as the Product Owner for projects using the Agile methodology and Scrum framework.

    + Accountable for backlog grooming/prioritization sessions to ensure sign-off by business and development teams.

    + Provide input to the Merchandising & Co-op Brands portfolio leadership about the timing and dependencies of related business initiatives and projects.

    + Apply project management best practices and standards and advocate for them across the teams and organization.

    + Design and develop dashboards, reports, presentations, and visual aids. Use these tools to educate, inform, and influence business decisions for merchants and executives.

    + Guide User Acceptance Testing (UAT) in partnership with IT teams.

    + Assist with training and rollout plans for new systems. Help with enhancements to existing systems as directed by the Manager or Change Management supervisor.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Product Design, Retail, Supply Chain or Operations or related field

    + 5+ years professional experience preferably in Merchandising, product design & development, process improvement or similar for related business units

    + Advanced computer skills, to include Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint), Jira

    + Experience with SAP ECC and enterprise merchandising solutions like Oracle, JDA, SAP, or similar. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management solutions such as Enovia, Centric, or similar.

    + Excellence in applying critical rigor & technical proficiency to the business environment

    + Demonstrated ability to self-educate and learn while doing in a highly complex and rapidly changing environment

    + Proficient development and delivery of project documentation, including presentations to Senior Executives

    + Effective and articulate communication in all modes and all levels in an organization

    + Knowledge of standard merchandising practices, capabilities and processes

    + Knowledge of project and portfolio management best practices and methodologies

    + Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.

    Preferred Qualifications

    3+ years of project-oriented experience in Merchandising, Product Design, Retail, Supply Chain or Operations

    + Knowledge/Proficiency with Excel VBA, SQL, or other programming languages

    + Certification or deep knowledge of PMP, Scrum, Agile and SAFe project frameworks

    + Experience with business process improvement methods (Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen)

    + Experience with o9 or related technology solution implementations

    Pay Range
