    Description:

    POSITION PURPOSE

    The Pharmacy Supervisor – Technician (certified and licensed) provides safe, quality technical and non-technical functions which assist in provision of pharmaceutical care under the supervision and direction of a registered pharmacist in accordance with level of experience, education, policies and procedures. Accountable for leading, managing and advancing people, processes and / or programs that support direct or indirect patient care. The Pharmacy Supervisor – Technician promotes and advocates for patients, technicians, and pharmacy support colleagues.

     

    Responsible for providing leadership, oversight, alignment, and standardization for assigned Pharmacy area/business line. Implements strategic and operational initiatives including new services/programs, revenue enhancement, expense reduction, managed care utilization systems, and strategies. Responsible for ensuring performance excellence in terms of quality, safety, service, affordability, and technology. Oversees drug utilization management efforts, manages educational activities, and provides subject matter expertise in assigned area.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Leadership – Provides leadership and retains accountability for delegation, choices, decisions and outcomes. Supports alignment and standardization for Pharmacy services across the continuum of care to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of Pharmacy. Acts independently and appropriately within license, scope of knowledge and experience in practice area. Exhibits agility and willingness to take on new and additional responsibilities. Embraces new ideas and cultural differences while managing competing priorities.

     

    Goals – Collaborates with Pharmacy leaders, medical staff, and healthcare team to develop strategy, goals, objectives, and operational standards to ensure services and priority alignment. Responsible for the successful achievement of strategic objectives and goals and optimizing resources to achieve the desired outcomes.

     

    Quality and Compliance – Supports and promotes a culture based on the principles of continuous quality improvement. Collaborates with health care leaders to establish quality and compliance standards. Monitors quality assurance activities and issues, identifies opportunities, and creates corrective action plans to improve operational effectiveness.

     

    Finance – Supports effective, judicious, and financially responsible use of resources. Collaborates in identifying analytics and metrics to demonstrate baseline and performance improvement targets. Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), drives tactics, and implements actions plans.

     

    Pharmacy Operations – Supports medication safety measures and efficient operational processes. Supports business development, revenue integrity, and 340B program activities (if applicable). Ensures colleagues are assigned to work areas to achieve established standards for operational support. Contributes to staffing support as needed (approximately 40-60% of time). Provides and supports medication preparation and dispensing. Oversees colleagues providing patient care for knowledge focus areas (e.g., medication assistance program, medication history/reconciliation, meds-to-bed). Oversees charging, crediting, billing, benefit investigation, insurance optimization, call center, and/or prior authorization activities. Oversees colleagues performing functions that require advanced skill, and/or certification (e.g., automation and technology support, medication assistance program, medication history/reconciliation, meds-to-bed, specialty pharmacy functions). Utilizes and integrates technology and centralized support services.

     

    Professional Development – Supports training, education, coaching, and assessment of pharmacist competencies. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, licenses, and certifications, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. Creates and supports a work climate that empowers colleagues and values colleagues’ contributions.

     

    Procurement - Supports procurement activities including purchasing, receiving, storing, distribution, inventory, compounding and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. Supports optimization of procurement and distribution processes.

     

    Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

    FUNCTIONAL ROLE

    Frontline, department-based, direct or indirect care department; Supervises daily functions, professional & frontline staff (multidisciplinary team) of assigned department; Accountable for the staff coordination, scheduling & assignment; Participates in & contributes to the performance management/review process; Manages or contributes to the daily performance, daily adherence to regulatory requirements & drives results of team within assigned department; Implements departmental plans & priorities identified by accountable pharmacy leaders.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy is preferred (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, Accounting).

     

    Experience: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a pharmacy technician with experience in leading initiatives; internal or external certifications or completion of role specific certification or licensing.

     

    Licensure: Current pharmacy technician state licensure where employed.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Written and verbal communication skills to interpret and/or discuss technical or sensitive information with internal and external customers. Discretion in deciding what and how to communicate. Oral presentation skills to maximize the impact of thoughts transmitted.

     

    Organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful due to time constraints.

     

    Knowledge of current trends and developments in the Pharmacy practice and changing hospital and health care environment.

     

    Ability to apply continuous quality improvement principles to define system problems, develop alternatives, implement solutions, and measure the outcome.

     

    Working knowledge of Microsoft office products, including word, Excel, PowerPoint and other graphics or presentation software.

     

    Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

     

    Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.

     

    This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position may require potentially prolonged periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing.

     

    Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
