This position serves our partners at the Department of Corrections (DOC). The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.

_*This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last up to three (3) years._

As a Systems Engineer with MNIT and Department of Corrections (DOC), your role will be centered on developing and managing modern data solutions, including data warehousing and business intelligence systems. Key responsibilities include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing and building data models, and creating interactive dashboards, and involves implementing and maintaining data repositories and business intelligence applications to ensure they meet DOC’s needs.

This position requires an employee to be onsite at 1450 Energy Park Dr, St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of IT related experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or a related field.

Experience must include:

+ BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, or similar.

+ SQL and relational databases experience, and knowledge of data warehousing concepts.

+ Translating business requirements into meaningful reports & dashboards using Business Intelligence (BI) tools.

+ Cloud-based data & analytics and ETL services.

+ Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

+ Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Azure tech stack like Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Power BI.

+ Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and automation.

+ Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and their application in BI.

+ Expertise in writing and performance-tuning SQL queries and procedures.

+ Experience with git-based version control.

+ Experience planning and organizing projects and managing project teams, and excellent prioritization and time management skills.

+ Experience with data governance frameworks and establishing data quality standards.
