Job Summary and Qualifications

HCA’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (DT&I) team delivers a step change in that direction through clinically led integration of digital and AI technologies into care.
As a Lead Engineer, you will be a technical leader in our AI Enablement team, driving the development and implementation of innovative Agentic AI solutions for HCA. Reporting to the Director of AI Enablement, you will lead a team of engineers, collaborating closely with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable Gen AI products. Your deep technical expertise and leadership skills will be essential in guiding the team, ensuring adherence to best practices, and delivering impactful AI solutions.
What you will do in this role:
+ Lead a team of engineers in the design, development, and implementation of AI-powered applications and services, with a specific focus on Agentic AI
+ Collaborate with product managers and data scientists to translate product requirements into technical specifications and actionable development tasks for Agentic AI solutions
+ Design, develop, and deploy AI agents to automate tasks, improve decision-making, and enhance user experiences
+ Integrate AI agents into existing systems and workflows, ensuring seamless operation and optimal performance
+ Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of learning and innovation in Agentic AI
+ Oversee the development process, ensuring adherence to coding standards, testing protocols, and deployment procedures for Agentic AI solutions
+ Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure AI infrastructure to support Agentic AI development
+ Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Agentic AI development process
+ Stay current with advancements in AI, Agentic AI, and related technologies, and share knowledge with the team
+ Participate in cross-functional collaboration across HCA business functions, IT, and enterprise product teams
What qualifications you will need:
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field - Required
+ 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on AI/ML applications - Required
+ Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
+ Strong technical background with hands-on experience in developing and deploying AI/ML models, generative AI technologies, and Agentic AI development - Required
+ Experience with cloud-based AI platforms and services (e.g. GCP, Azure)
+ Experience with agile development methodologies
+ Deep understanding of software development best practices, including coding standards, testing, and deployment - Required
Technical & Platform Expertise (Google Cloud Focused)
+ Low-Code Platform Skills: Experience integrating low-code tools with Google Workspace, BigQuery, and Looker. AI/ML Integration on GCP
+ Hands-on (tangible) experience with Vertex AI, AutoML, Generative AI Studio, and PaLM/Gemini APIs. Ability to deploy and monitor models using Vertex Pipelines, Model Registry, and Explainable AI
+ Data Engineering & Interoperability: Strong skills in BigQuery, Dataflow and/or Cloud run, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions. Familiarity with FHIR on Google Cloud Healthcare API, and secure data exchange using Cloud Healthcare API
+ Version Control with GitHub
+ Infrastructure
+ Exposure to fine tuning LLM models
+ Prompt engineering
+ Classical deep learning tech
+ Agentic AI, Agent development Kit (ADK), Langchain/LangGraph (a plus)
Strategic Thinking & Leadership
+ Solution Architecture on GCP: Ability to design scalable, secure, and cost-effective AI-powered solutions using GCP-native services. Understands how to balance low-code speed with enterprise-grade reliability and compliance
+ Cross-Functional Leadership: Experience leading hybrid teams (e.g., developers, data scientists, UI/UX, Business Stakeholders, etc.) Can evangelize low-code + AI adoption across business units
+ Agile & Product-Oriented: Skilled in agile delivery, backlog grooming, and iterative prototyping. Can translate business pain points into AI-enabled low-code solutions
Leadership, Mentorship & Team Enablement
+ Team Leadership: Proven experience leading engineering teams, setting technical direction, and driving delivery excellence
+ Mentorship & Coaching: Actively mentors engineers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement
+ Developer Growth: Invests in the professional development of team members, helping them grow in both low-code and AI capabilities

+ Regulatory & Compliance Expertise
+ Deep understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and data residency requirements on GCP
+ Experience with de-identification, access control, and audit logging in healthcare apps
+ Clinical & Operational Insight
+ Passion for responsible AI, bias mitigation, and ethical deployment in healthcare
+ Keeps up with GCP’s evolving AI roadmap and can pilot new capabilities quickly
Work Location/Schedule:
+ Remote – U.S. Only
+ M-F; Central Time Zone office hours
Travel Required:
+ This job requires travel to Nashville, TN to attend New Hire Orientation, quarterly team meetings, and other travel on an as-needed basis
