    LAP engagement specialists will monitor data and assist classroom teachers with students requiring tier 2 and tier 3 behavioral interventions. These specialists provide support to qualifying students who have already met LAP intervention criteria for reading or math assistance and who also need additional help with social-emotional development or are at risk of facing exclusionary discipline measures.

     

    + The specialist will utilize the VPS/VEA STUDENT MANAGEMENT & DISCIPLINE PROCESS DOCUMENT (https://vern.vansd.org/Utilities/Uploads/Handler/Uploader.ashx?area=composer&filename=Student+Management++Discipline+Process+Document+-+Elementary.pdf&fileguid=b91113dc-65b9-470d-89eb-dd702f597815) for students on their caseload.

    + Specialists will collaborate with district and building teams in developing integrated support plans for LAP-identified students

    + Specialists will provide instruction to support the student to engage or re-engage in learning.

    + Specialists will provide implementation support within the students' general education environment

     

    Job Description: Engagement Specialist (Vancouver Public School District)

    Position Overview:

    The Vancouver Public School District is seeking a highly qualified Engagement Specialist to join our team. As an Engagement Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Universal Design for Learning principles and guidelines, with a particular focus on enhancing student engagement in learning and the classroom community. Additionally, you will utilize trauma-informed social-emotional learning practices and apply your expertise in root cause analysis and multi-tiered systems of support. Experience in elementary education as an instructional specialist is considered a plus. Familiarity with Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS) is essential for this role.

    Responsibilities:

    + Support Implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Principles: Utilize your deep knowledge of UDL principles and guidelines, specifically emphasizing enhancing student engagement. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to identify strategies that foster inclusive, differentiated, and engaging learning environments.

    + Trauma-Informed Care Practices: Apply trauma-informed approaches to promote students' social-emotional well-being and create a safe and supportive learning environment. Collaborate with school staff and community partners to develop and implement SEL initiatives and interventions.

    + Root Cause Analysis: Understand the functions of behavior and escalation cycles by utilizing root cause analysis techniques to identify underlying factors that impact student engagement. Collaborate with school teams and individual classroom teachers to analyze data, identify trends, and develop targeted interventions to improve student engagement and success within various learning spaces in the building.

    + Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS): Support the implementation of MTSS frameworks to address the diverse needs of students. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop and implement tiered interventions that promote student engagement and academic growth.

    + Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS): Apply Collaborative Proactive Solutions skills to understand and address challenging behaviors in students. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and students to identify lagging skills and unsolved problems, and develop proactive solutions that promote positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

    + Professional Development and Coaching: Provide ongoing professional development and coaching for teachers and staff on best practices related to engagement, UDL, trauma-informed practices, MTSS, and CPS. Support teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies and interventions to enhance student engagement.

    + Capacity Building: Build capacity with teachers in supporting tier 2 and tier 3 behavior interventions and strategies for students who require additional support within the general education environment. Provide training, resources, and ongoing support to empower teachers in meeting the diverse needs of all students.

    + Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement comprehensive engagement plans. Facilitate regular communication and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of engagement initiatives.

    + Attend district-directed, professional learning as scheduled by the Multilingual and Student Success Department.

    Qualifications:

    - Bachelor's degree in education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

     

    - Deep knowledge of the principles and guidelines of Universal Design for Learning, with a specific focus on engagement.

     

    - Familiarity with trauma-informed social-emotional learning practices and their application in an educational setting.

     

    - Experience with root cause analysis and data-driven decision-making to identify barriers to student engagement and develop effective interventions.

     

    - Knowledge and experience in implementing multi-tiered systems of support to address diverse student needs.

     

    - Previous experience as an instructional coach in elementary education is a strong plus.

     

    - Strong understanding and application of Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS) skills.

     

    - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and support staff.

     

    - Strong organizational and time management abilities to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

     

    - Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic educational environment.

    Benefits/Compensation:

    + Salary range: $64,498 - $121,573 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here (https://vansd.org/salary-schedules/) .

    + Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement.
