The **Engineer II, Plant Controls** team within RWE Clean Energy ensures control solutions for renewable energyy projects of RWE and its customers are designed with the highest quality for the entire life cycle - from the development phase to operation. This position executes on the design, construction, commissioning and administration of control systems for utility scale plants within RWE Clean Energy.
In this position, you will be key in the design and execution of control solutions for renewable energy plants. You will be gathering project-specific requirements to define the services and functionalities required by the plants, determine the most suitable SCADA concept for interconnection, and ensure the right control system design for the application.
In this position you will be involved in all the different stages of the project, starting from a design stage, then guiding the implementation phase, and supporting the on-site commissioning of the solution.
You will work hand-in-hand with third party providers, assessing the most suitable options and bringing concepts into the field.
As a Plant Controls Engineer, you will be a key interface between Operations and Development for utility scale projects.
Role Responsibilities:
+ Assist plant controls design, configuration and commissioning on individual projects supervised by a senior engineer
+ Work closely with a Senior Engineer; and with project managers and other engineering discipline SME’s to ensure plant controls requirements are met and project timelines are achieved
+ Review project contracts and discuss implications for your individual projects
+ Gather technical requirements for projects based on grid codes, standards and contracts and understand plant controls system capability to achieve these
+ Understand project exhibits and contractor scope; reviews and modifies as necessary with guidance from senior
+ Understand existing scope of work and technical requirements for control system vendors and integrators for projects
+ Reviews contractor design documents and understand how design aligns with plant controls standards
+ Develops and implements technical requirements for individual projects including networking design (IP addressing, VLANs), RTU configuration, plant control strategy, substation equipment configuration
+ Commissions substation equipment, switches, and plant networks for individual projects
+ Inteprets and investigates operational data of plants
+ Understands and collaborates on the strategic goals of Plant Controls Team and supports working to our standards and processes
Job Requirements and Experiences:
+ A Bachlors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Engineering, similar field of engineering, or equivalent professional experience
+ A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in control systems and SCADA platforms (any industry) preferred
+ Understands basic networking fundamentals
+ Experience in configuration of RTUs or other plant controllers highly regarded
+ Experience reading and understanding technical documentation including exhibits, scope of works, functional descriptions and plant control narratives
+ Structured and thorough in analyzing and documenting technical requirements and information
+ Experience commissioning networking and plant controls highly regarded, but not required
+ Experience within renewable energy or power industry highly regarded, but not required
+ Is able to work autonomously to a degree; regularly checks in with a senior for progress on projects
+ Takes ownership of work and resolves issues; seeks guidance when direction is needed
+ Documents work and progress effectively
+ Reports upwards on technical work status and progress
+ High attention to detail
+ Excellent interpersonal skills, energetic and a self-starter
+ Proactive in resolving issues
+ Uses team collaboration tools and software
+ Must be open to collaboration and working in a team environment
+ Clear passion and motivation to work in the renewables industry
Wrok Environment:
This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.
