    Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the 97th FSS Fitness Center. Performs major and minor mechanical repairs on exercise equipment such as repairing or replacing treadmill decks, belts, chains, sprockets, bearings, bushings, pulleys, and cables. Performs diagnostic checks of circuit boards and other electrical components as required. Provides monthly cleaning, greasing, lubricating, and replacing worn parts. Disassembles, assembles, sets up, warehouses, and turns-in equipment as needed. Conducts daily inspections to ensure all equipment is operational. Develops budget for equipment repair and replacement. Submits proper documentation for parts, equipment replacement, upgrades and turn-in. Maintains warranty, maintenance, and equipment accountability records and documentation. Supports fitness programs by performing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance and repair of exercise equipment. Assists in the planning and implementation of intramural, league, varsity, or special programs and competitions. Participates in the coordination phases of the sports program. Provides guidance to coaches as required. Prepares intramural sports budget and game schedule. Ensures proper reports and documentation for sports officials, contracts, and other program purchase agreements and payment schedule are submitted in a timely manner. Ensures weekly inspections are conducted on sports equipment, fields, and facilities with discrepancies documented and forwarded to the Fitness Director for correction. Maintains surveillance of customer eligibility and provides assistance to patrons in proper use of exercise machines and equipment. . Advises participating personnel in the proper use of the facilities and equipment. Coordinates and ensures the correctness of boundaries, goals, nets, and other devices on playing fields, courts and recreation areas according to guidelines established by Air Force instructions and standards. Conducts pre/post-season maintenance and safety inspections on fields, tennis courts, racquetball and basketball courts, and other athletic areas. Sets up gymnasiums and playing fields for sport events, tournaments, and practice games when such assignments require practical knowledge of the rules and procedures of such activities. Performs minor construction, repair, and installation of backboards, hoops, tennis and basketball nets, wind screens, and other items needed for each sport. Notifies appropriate Base Agency for maintenance requests and safety discrepancies. Assists the Fitness Center Director in the administration and operation of the Fitness Center. Makes recommendations to the FCD on any change in operations, organization and rules of play. Monitors the progress of intramural/varsity programs to determine the possible shortcoming in such areas as participation, coaches, officials, safety practices, supplies, equipment, or facilities and recommends action to correct discrepancies. Occasionally serves as counter desk attendant, receives telephone calls, and makes reservations for use of equipment or facilities. Describes use of cardiovascular and strength equipment to patrons to include proper positioning, exercise techniques and safety aspects. Operates point of sale system. Collects payments for services. Prepares cashier reports and makes daily deposits to central cashier. Performs opening and closing procedures of facilities IA W written guidelines. Performs sanitation checks of facilities and cleans as needed. Assists in setting up facilities and equipment for programs and special functions. Performs other duties as required. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Work is reviewed and performance evaluated in terms of quantity and quality of work performed, timeliness, accuracy, ensure user satisfaction and contribution to the success of the fitness centers. Works directly under the supervision of the Fitness Center Director or his/her designated representative. Employee must be able to work independently with no supervision once properly trained. Employee must be courteous and exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with customers; expected to adhere to fire, safety and facility security regulations with no more than two (2) violations per year. Must maintain a cooperative and harmonious working relationship with other staff members. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Job experience which resulted in knowledge of a wide range of principles, concepts and techniques of physical fitness and sports programs related to exercise, physical fitness, and/or team sports. Experience gained on-the-job in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of moderately complex electronic and mechanical equipment. Employee must have at least two years of on-the-job experience in planning, implementing and scheduling fitness and sports programs or related activities. Must have, or be able to obtain within one year, an enhanced fitness certification from either Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research (CIAR) or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Must have completed, or be able to complete within six (6) months, the AETC Fitness Fundamentals Course. Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted and 100 lbs with assistance and complete a pre-employment physical. Must be willing to work an uncommon tour of duty. Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check (NAC). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position DOES NOT allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal Affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement.
