Job Summary
NOTE: The current vacancy is a two (2) year limited-term position with the Department of Transportation with a projected end date of June 30, 2027. The eligibility list that results from this recruitment will also be used to fill permanent and temporary assignments that become available during the life of the list.
DEFINITION
Participates as a member of an administrative or program team in a City division or City department performing analytical and administrative duties that contribute to the delivery of City services and programs. Analyzes policy issues, compiles data from studies, conducts surveys and develops and monitors budgets.
SUPERVISION
Works under the administrative supervision of a professional, supervisory and/or management employee who outlines work assignments, reviews work in progress and periodically reviews completed work. May exercise technical and/or administrative supervision over clerical support and/or paraprofessional staff, as assigned. This includes making detailed work assignments, frequently reviewing work in progress and carefully reviewing completed work.
Representative Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Note: Duties may vary dependent upon assignment.
Researches administrative issues, conducts studies and produces documents recommending appropriate courses of action and strategies in support of the goals of a City department or division.
Assists in the coordination of programs and projects, performing fiscal functions that may include budget preparation, expenditure control, revenue projections and implementing oversight of cash handling.
May perform various public relations tasks that include the development of written or web-based materials.
Provides information and assistance to the public and staff on various City programs. May participate in professional organizations in specific program areas and make presentations to the public.
Researches information, conducts quantitative and qualitative analyses and prepares reports.
Prepares and disseminates information and handles complaints and requests for information.
Identifies best practices in specific program or service areas, preparing reports with recommendations for courses of action.
Interprets and applies rules, regulations and policies. Revises, modifies and assists in writing new policies and procedures. Keeps abreast of changes in relevant regulations and laws in area of specialty.
Coordinates and/or assists in the preparation of a division budget.
Trains, supervises, assigns and evaluates the work of clerical support in area of assignment, as assigned.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Using a personal computer and applicable software applications.
Working effectively with persons from diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds.
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
Two years of recent, paid work experience which has included performing research, analysis, report writing and administrative staff assistance tasks. Public sector experience is desirable.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is regularly performed indoors in an office environment and requires frequent sitting and use of a computer keyboard and screen. Physical demands may include walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and grasping. May be required to visit off-site locations to attend meetings. May be required to work evenings or weekends dependent upon assignment.

NOTE: If three or more qualified City employees apply and pass the examination, a promotional list will be established in addition to an open-competitive list. If fewer than three qualified City employees pass the examination, the appointing authority, in accordance with the City's civil service rules and regulations, can decline to use a promotional list, in which case a promotional list will not be established for this position.
