The University of Miami’s (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, Coral Restoration Lab has an exciting full-time position for a Sr. Research Associate 1 to support all education, outreach, and citizen science activities as part of the Rescue a Reef program (RAR). Rescue a Reef is UM’s citizen science program designed to build both community and coastal resilience through public engagement, education, and coral restoration.
Rescue a Reef is seeking a highly motivated candidate to help coordinate and carry out all program education, outreach, and citizen science activities. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated interest in coral conservation and community engagement as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities included, but are not limited to:
+ Organize community events and citizen science expeditions
+ Lead education, outreach, and communication activities
+ Co-host citizen science coral restoration expeditions
+ Develop and disseminate educational materials
+ Manage program’s email, social media, and science communication strategies
+ Spearhead fundraising campaigns
+ Train and co-supervise program team members
+ Track, evaluate, and report program and restoration metrics
In addition to helping run the Rescue a Reef program, the employee will support the coral research, husbandry, and restoration activities of Dr. Lirman’s Coral Restoration Lab.
Position requirements
+ Master’s Degree in marine science
+ AAUS Diving Certification
+ Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills
+ Ability to conduct physically demanding field work
+ Flexibility to work long/variable hours including occasional evenings and weekends
