Join our growing division within a well-established life sciences company focused on developing innovative single-use consumables and filling systems for cell and gene therapy tools. We are seeking a Product Development Engineer with a mechanical or biomedical background to design, develop, and support single-use plastic consumables. This role combines hands-on engineering, customer collaboration, and light project management responsibilities. You will be involved in every step of the product lifecycle—from early customer interactions to design, documentation, prototyping, testing, and working with external manufacturers.
Responsibilities
+ Lead and support the design and development of single-use consumables, primarily using off-the-shelf plastic components.
+ Translate customer needs and sales feedback into detailed engineering requirements and product solutions.
+ Create and maintain thorough documentation, including test plans, protocols, and design reviews, aligned with ISO 9001 quality standards.
+ Collaborate closely with contract manufacturers for prototyping, injection molding, and full-scale production.
+ Participate in cross-functional team meetings and interface regularly with sales, customers, suppliers, and internal leadership.
+ Manage timelines, resources, and deliverables for assigned projects, with the ability to scope duration and priorities.
+ Support formal testing through external partners by drafting protocols and analyzing results.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering.
+ 5+ years of experience in product development with expanding responsibilities.
+ Proficient in SolidWorks.
+ Demonstrated experience with Product Development Process, Risk Management, Root Cause Corrective Action, and Quality Management Systems.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with customers and vendors.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Exposure to FDA-regulated environments or complaint handling processes (though not required).
+ Materials science knowledge related to sterilization, particulate generation, and bonding.
+ Experience working in a small company or startup-like environment.
Work Environment
This position is based at an onsite manufacturing site, working with a team of 5 people. The company offers a small team environment where wearing multiple hats is a common practice. Enjoy the stability of a reputable company combined with the agility of a nimble engineering team.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
