    The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) is seeking a Coastal Resources Scientist – DCL A to provide expert scientific and technical support for coastal restoration and environmental mitigation projects in the New Orleans Regional Office. This role involves leading complex ecosystem monitoring efforts, managing multi-million dollar projects, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus three years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR

    A master's degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus two years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR

    A Ph.D. in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus one year of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology.

    Supplemental Qualifications:

    One year of experience planning, monitoring, management and/or evaluation of wetland (bottomland hardwood, swamp or marsh) mitigation projects in the Louisiana coastal zone.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Independently develop, implement, and manage CPRA’s environmental mitigation program, including the evaluation and adaptive management of mitigation projects.

    + Serve as CPRA liaison to the USACE, local levee districts, and an Interagency Environmental Team, as needed, regarding the operations, maintenance, and monitoring of mitigation projects from plan development to implementation.

    + Manage contract development for mitigation and other coastal restoration projects, including writing scopes of work, evaluating proposals, overseeing deliverables, and managing multi-million dollar budgets and long-term programmatic funding.

    + Manage monitoring activities for various coastal restoration projects, including contract management, environmental data collection, reporting, budgeting, and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies, as needed.

    + Prepare detailed reports for stakeholders and lead decision-making on project success and governance.

    + Represent CPRA at public meetings, conferences, and workshops, engaging with government officials, industry, academia, and the public to share project information, promote best practices, and coordinate outreach for mitigation and restoration efforts.

    + Mentor and support lower-level Coastal Resources Scientists by providing technical guidance, training, and career development, while reviewing their work for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with agency policies and standards.

    Appointment Type:Promotional

     

    Compensation: The bi-weekly minimum hire rate established for this position in accordance with CPRA’s Special Entrance Rate Policy is $2,510.40. The maximum salary for the Coastal Resources Scientist Staff- DCL A is $103,064 annually.

     

    This position will be filled by Promotion of a permanent, classified CPRA employee.
