    The mission of the Louisiana State Police is to provide an independent, merit-based, system to empower the State of Louisiana to recruit, develop, and retain a state police force with the highest level of professionalism and proactive engagement in providing service to and protection of Louisiana’s citizens and visitors.

     

    The Investigative Specialist's primary responsibility is to conduct detailed research and analysis of criminal intelligence and investigative information related to ongoing criminal investigations and law enforcement operations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Three years of law enforcement, investigatory, or gaming regulation experience; OR

    Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

    A bachelor's degree.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws are granted.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    -Each Investigative Specialist must have awareness in areas of concern to the State Police, including; highway drug interdiction, fugitive apprehension, legalized gaming, illegal gambling, narcotics trafficking and distribution; traditional organized crime; Asian organized crime; Russian organized crime; motorcycle gangs; street gangs; domestic terrorism; international terrorism and environmental crimes.

     

    -Utilizing this knowledge, analysts will be called upon daily in the following capacities: performs as analysts and aid investigators in the collection, compilation and analysis of case specific intelligence or criminal investigative reports containing confidential information in highly sophisticated and complete criminal investigations and recommend case-specific investigative directions.

     

    -Researches and analyzes intelligence or investigative reports, public document and departmental and commercial databases, then disseminates time sensitive information vital to officer and public safety to investigators, road personnel and management personnel.

     

    -Conducts general background investigations on persons and/or businesses applying for gaming licenses within the State.

     

    -Acts as an affiliate between the Louisiana State Police and other state, local and federal law enforcement and criminal justice agencies by providing tactical and strategic analytical support.

     

    --Provides analytical support to local, state and federal agencies investigating violent crimes, money laundering, narcotics crimes and missing and/or exploited children.

    Compensation: Investigative Specialist 1 (AS-612)—$1,348.80/biweekly

     

    Investigative Specialist 2 (AS-613)—$1,443.20/bi-weekly

    Location : Investigative Support Section in the Office of State Police, located in East Baton Rouge Parish .

    This section comprises the two following units/programs:

    + Louisiana State Analytical & Fusion Exchange (LA-SAFE) (http://la-safe.org/)

     

    The mission of the Louisiana State Analytical & Fusion Exchange (LA-SAFE) is to support public safety and homeland security in an all–crimes/all-hazards environment and to support federal, state, and local agencies by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information and intelligence data regarding criminal and terrorist activity.

    It shall be the mission of the Louisiana State Police Criminal Intelligence Unit to collect, evaluate, and disseminate information on known or suspected criminal violators, groups, or organizations for analytical exploitation by the Investigative Support Unit. LA-SAFE will provide the department, other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies with timely information regarding matters directly or indirectly affecting the safety and security of the people in the state. The Criminal Intelligence Unit shall only collect and retain information which is directly related to a legitimate law enforcement purpose. The activities of this unit shall not interfere with the exercise of constitutionally guaranteed rights and privileges of individuals.
