    Description

    Tyto Athene is searching for a **Senior Data Architect (Data Protection)** to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.Positions are located both CONUS/OCONUS at the SOUTHCOM HQ in Doral, FL, and at the TSOC and other locations abroad (GTMO, Honduras, Colombia etc.).

     

    The Senior Data Architect develops mechanisms to characterize, shape, and normalize data within the Enterprise Information Environment (EIE) to support data-centric operations, driving decisive military advantage. This position ensures that all data protection mechanisms align with DoD cybersecurity standards, data governance policies, and organizational continuity requirements.

    Responsibilities:

    + Develops mechanisms to characterize, shape, and normalize data within the Enterprise Information Environment (EIE) to support data-centric operations, driving decisive military advantage

    + Leverages both new and existing internal and external strategies, technologies, and policies to make data accessible, secure, and effectively utilized within the USSOUTHCOM decision-making frameworks

    + Establishes a seamless, interoperable, accessible, and resilient data bus (common storage location) for the EIE, integrating all new services and capabilities into the data bus

    + Develops and maintains common data interface specifications for all information systems and provides data asset information to support the population of mission-aligned federated data catalogs, facilitating the effective sharing and utilization of data across the enterprise

    + Design and implement data protection architectures including backup, recovery, and replication for structured and unstructured data

    + Define and enforce data classification, encryption, and masking strategies across storage platforms

    + Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with DoD 8140/8570, NIST, and RMF frameworks

    + Work with data stewards and governance teams to identify and secure sensitive information (e.g., PII, PHI, classified data)

    + Provide architectural guidance to infrastructure and DevSecOps teams

    + Document architectural blueprints, data protection playbooks, and recovery procedures

    Qualifications

    Required:

    + Bachelor’sdegree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Cybersecurity or related field

    + 10+ years of experience in data architecture, backup and recovery engineering, or enterprise storage systems.

    + Strong expertise in data protection tools (e.g., Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, Rubrik, Zerto).

    + Knowledge of SAN/NAS technologies, data replication, and business continuity planning.

    + Experience implementing encryption at rest and in transit using FIPS-compliant technologies.

    + Familiarity with RMF, DoD 8570/8140 frameworks, and COOP/DR implementation

    Desired:

    + Master’s degree in related field

    + Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or TOGAF certification.

    + Cloud data protection experience (e.g., Azure Backup, AWS Backup, GCC High).

    + Familiarity with DoDIN, IC, or joint mission environments.

    + Experience with Zero Trust architectures and cross-domain solutions.

    + Excellent written communication and documentation skills

    Clearance:

    + TS/SCI clearance required

    Certification:

    + DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role

    + CompTIA Security+ CE
