Department: Internal Operations
Position title: Senior Community Engagement Specialist
Summary of Functions: This position serves as the Community Outreach Specialist for the Governor’s Office of Internal Operations and is responsible for supporting the Deputy Director of Community Engagement and the Deputy Chief of Staff, to support the Governor’s robust community engagement plan across the state and provide support to the Governor’s communications team.
Roles and Responsibilities for the Office of Community Engagement (70%)
+ Assists the Deputy Director of Community Engagement in planning and executing high-profile events for the Governor’s Office, including but not limited to: statewide listening tours, State of the State, Celebrate Colorado, cultural celebrations, etc.
+ Coordinates with the Governor’s scheduling team and event organizers to schedule community events, when approved, for the Governor’s attendance.
+ In coordination with the Director of Advance and Rural Outreach and scheduling team, plan press/outreach trips outside the Denver-Metro area for the Governor
+ Assists with the execution of the Governor’s bill signing tour in conjunction with the scheduling, legislative and communications teams.
+ Assists the Deputy Director of Community Engagement in coordinating the logistics of earned media events
+ Staffing the Governor and Lt. Governor at community events as needed.
+ Manages Community Engagement intern cohorts.
+ Creates the Community Engagement Newsletter.
+ Maintain and contribute to a community engagement database that includes stakeholders, community members and local elected officials.
+ Research upcoming community events and maintain a community engagement calendar.
+ Attend scheduling meetings to provide input on community events.
Administrative Support for the Deputy Director of Community Engagement (30%)
+ Assists the Deputy Director of Community Engagement in coordinating the Governor’s meetings and special events including but not limited to sending out invitations and reminders, identifying the location, setting up the event and breaking down, etc.
+ Scheduling meetings with community leaders in targeted constituency groups.
Organizational Relationships: This position directly reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Deputy Director of Community Engagement.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimal Qualifications:
+ Minimum two years experience in volunteer management, community engagement relations, project management, community organizing or other related areas.
+ Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate, and to create systems and processes.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions.
+ Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally.
+ Works well under pressure.
+ Strong relationship management skills with community interactions.
+ Experience in and/or working with diverse constituencies and communities of color desired.
+ Additional language skills desired but not required.
+ Create content with accessibility in mind.
+ Create alternatives for any media content, such as alternative text, captions, and audio descriptions.
+ Use content authoring and publishing platforms that support accessibility.
+ Partner with colleagues and team members to prioritize accessibility in content production.
Expected Annual Travel: Frequent instate travel
Conditions of employment:must be current employed within the Office of Community Engagement, Internal Operations, within Office of the Governor.
