UPMC Hamot is hiring a Patient Care Technician to join the team on our 4 North Transitional Support unit!

This position is Full-Time, with rotating day and night shifts. Occasional weekend and holiday coverage required.
_Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience._
Responsibilities:
+ Assists with patient care, procedures, and activities of daily living. Supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
+ Reports patient status changes and provides feedback to the RN. Performs core nursing assistant tasks (e.g., vitals, glucose checks, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care).
+ Completes at least four advanced tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, EKG, dressing changes, catheter removal, bladder scan). Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates effectively with departments. Maintains respectful and professional relationships.
+ Participates in unit activities (e.g., call lights, phones, meal trays, patient transport). Accepts feedback, identifies learning needs, and seeks improvement. Provides patient/family instruction under RN direction.
+ Applies, monitors, and removes restraints per protocol. Communicates clearly with the healthcare team.
+ Understands and respects cultural diversity and addresses workplace issues. Promotes workplace safety for self and patients.
+ Demonstrates accountability, motivation, and commitment to care.
+ Adheres to all patient care and hospital policies and safety procedures. Supports departmental changes, projects, and quality initiatives.
+ Documents care accurately and performs clerical tasks as needed. Fully competent in core assistant duties and additional clinical tasks.
+ Requests help with planning and prioritizing when needed. Medication access limited to delivering meds to the nurse.
+ In addition to the required standard competencies, the Patient Care Technician will achieve and maintain competency and/or perform at least 1 or more of the following advanced skills based on department operational need: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrythmia, 12-lead EKG, and NG tubes clamping and removal.
+ High school diploma or GED required.
+ Must meet one of the following experience or education criteria:
+ 1 year of general healthcare experience.
+ 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion (for those with less than 1 year of experience).
+ Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA or related healthcare training program with at least one completed clinical rotation.
+ Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
+ Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class. Successful completion of eRecord training.
+ EMT or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program, is preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
+ Act 34
+ ACLS preferred
