+ Experience playing tennis at the collegiate or professional level.
+ Collegiate coaching experience of 2 years or more
+ Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
+ Demonstrated ability to transfer technical and tactical knowledge of the sport of tennis to players effectively and positively
+ Strong communication skills to effectively work with a diverse work force and student-athlete population
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills to motivate student athletes
+ Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications
+ International playing and/or coaching experience
+ Tennis coaching specific certifications and/or continuing education courses
+ Experience identifying and successfully recruiting qualified student-athletes- both domestically and internationally
+ Strength and conditioning/biomechanical knowledge and experience in the field
+ Master’s degree in Exercise/Sport Science or related field
+ Demonstrated experience working in a leadership role in a collaborative environment
Job Description
This position is to assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the assigned NCAA Division I tennis program. Responsibilities include coaching, mental training, mentoring, program development, recruiting, public relations, community involvement and administrative duties as assigned in compliance with all university, conference and NCAA regulations.
Job Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Coaching
+ Assists in coordinating day to day practice preparation and execution and instruct student-athletes on these concepts as well as fundamentals of the game to develop the player and achieve personal and team goals
+ Evaluate student-athletes to identify strengths and deficiencies, and design instructional opportunities to teach student-athletes how to improve technical and strategic execution
+ Provide individual skill instruction, supervision, and motivation to student-athletes
+ Assists in preparing and coordinating annual, monthly, weekly, and day to day practice planning and design
+ Assist in conducting conditioning programs, in coordination with strength and conditioning staff, encompassing recognized and approved methods of improving power, speed, strength and aerobic performance, consistent with industry safety and health standards.
+ Foster a positive, supportive environment which develops the whole person
+ Assist in maintaining a close working relationship with the athletic trainer and strength & conditioning staff regarding athletic injury, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention.
Administration
+ Assist with completing and maintaining all forms/records as required for NCAA compliance
+ Assist with or manage team travel coordination and logistics
+ Manage scheduling of student-athlete life skills requirements and SAAC representation
+ Assist with Fall and Spring scheduling of opponents
+ Assist in planning, coordination, and execution of all approved Alumni and fundraising events/activities
+ Assist in maintaining and monitoring information required for NCAA eligibility of each student-athlete and inform the athletes on NCAA rules and regulations
+ In coordination with assigned academic advisor, assist in monitoring the academic performance of student-athletes to assure progress towards graduation
+ Assist with monitoring the condition of equipment and requesting replacement as necessary
+ String tennis racquets accurately and efficiently using player preferences and industry best practices
+ In coordination with Athletics Facilities staff, assist with monitoring the condition of tennis-related facilities and locker room.
+ Keep current in knowledge about issues affecting the athletic program, including internal and external events, discussions and concerns
+ Assist in maintaining a close working relationship with the SID regarding media relations, public relations, promotion, and awards to promote intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the University
+ Assist in periodic review and evaluation of program goals, analyzing findings, identifying areas requiring improvement, and pursuing more efficient methods and processes
+ Annually participate in Title IX education training, as well as other trainings as required by the university
Recruiting
+ Assist with or manage student-athlete recruitment process
+ As an NCAA certified recruiter, successfully research, scout, evaluate and contact prospective student-athletes while operating within the scope of the department, conference and NCAA regulations at all times.
+ As an on-campus recruiter, collaborate with other department and university staff in designing official and unofficial visits in compliance with all university, conference and NCAA regulations.
+ Establish and develop relationships with appropriate high school and junior college officials, academy/club coaches, and recruiting agencies for public relations purposes, thus positioning the program for recruiting success
+ Develop, maintain, and use master recruit databases and networking to support decision-making, assessments, evaluations, and scholarship offers.
NCAA Compliance
+ Employees of Texas State Athletic Department must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations and acknowledge this compliance as part of an evaluation process.
Additional Information to Applicants
+ Must be able to travel throughout the academic year and summer
+ Valid Driver’s license with good driving record
+ CPR /First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
