    Job Summary

    The Zemans Lab is part of the Departments of Internal Medicine and the Cellular and Molecular Biology Program at the University of Michigan Medical School. Our research seeks to understand lung cell lineage decisions, cellular heterogeneity, progenitor/stem cell regulation, and how normal homeostasis goes awry during a diverse range of lung diseases. We are interested in receiving applications from applicants with training in computational biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.

    Job Summary

    **Overview:** The Zemans Lab is part of the Departments of Internal Medicine and the Cellular and Molecular Biology Program at the University of Michigan Medical School. Our research seeks to understand lung cell lineage decisions, cellular heterogeneity, progenitor/stem cell regulation, and how normal homeostasis goes awry during a diverse range of lung diseases. We are interested in receiving applications from applicants with training in computational biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.

    **The ideal candidate:** The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in Python and/or R, and will also have some experience analyzing single cell data. The candidate will have excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills, working as part of a dynamic team. Primary job responsibilities will include data wrangling, data curation and management, and data analysis. Typical projects include working alongside wet-bench scientists (both with and without computational experience) to carry out analysis based on new experimental data. Developing independent research projects is also encouraged. Former lab members have received on-the-job training in single cell analysis and have gone on to jobs in industry and joined top PhD programs.

    Responsibilities*

    + scRNAseq data wrangling, data curation and management, and data analysis

    + Assisting with general lab responsibilities

    + Responsibilities include collaborative design, validation, and use of novel analysis approaches to interpret bioinformatics/clinical and/or 'omics data and review/revise/recommend approaches to experimental design and analysis.

    + Actively review literature and evaluate tools to identify and validate emerging methods and approaches.

    + Establish/maintain/extend best practices for reproducible bioinformatics analysis and general-use data pipelines.

    + May teach bioinformatics skills as appropriate.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Experience with R and/or Python and performing computational modeling.

    + Ability to help maintain data storage and usage of high-performance computing resources provided at University of Michigan

    + Excellent organizational and time management, verbal and written communication skills

    + Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, in hybrid settings.

    Intermediate requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree in recognized field of science or directly related to duties of position

    + Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience

    Associate requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree / Two domains characteristic of bioinformatics

    + Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Master's Degree preferred

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.     Additional Information

     

    This is a term-limited appointment. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
