    A Brief Overview

     

    Utilizes advanced arrhythmia recognition and cardiovascular diagnostic skills while holter scanning, assisting with Cardiac Exercise Stress testing and cardiac rehab, performing pediatric 15 lead ECGs, Specialty ECGs, Rhythm Strips and Atrial Electrograms. Directly interacts with patients, nurses, doctors, and staff in an outpatient and inpatient acute care setting. Works directly with the Cardiac Diagnostic team to coordinate patient care.

    Essential Functions

    Performs EKG’s, atrial electrograms, rhythm strips, exercise testing, holter monitor scanning/testing ,Ambulatory Blood Pressure testing and event recorders under the direction of a cardiology provider. • Procedures are explained to patient and caregiver at an understandable level and in a timely manner.

     

    + Performs procedures/tests with confidence and accuracy.

    + Tech is available and ready for patient when they arrive for their procedure preventing any delays.

    + Communication is provided in a timely manner and accurately portrays procedure/test findings.

    + Reviews preliminary results and routes test results to appropriate physician /staff.

    + Based on staffing assignment, performs EKG study portion of exercise test

    + Coordinates smooth flow of test/procedure, scheduling and completion in clinic, inpatient setting or pulmonary lab to meet the needs of the patient/caregiver, physician, and other professionals.

    + Prioritizes the order of tests Based on patient needs

    + Flexes workload to meet patient priorities.

    + Travel as needed to Methodist Hospitals, outreach clinics in Omaha and within the state or region, and other newly contracted sites

    + Trains & Teaches other healthcare professionals, providers, and technicians on the use of devices, equipment

     

    Performs a variety of functions to maintain patient files, prepare and distribute final reports, and enter charges for services appropriately.

     

    + Edits/types Holter reports, with 24-48 hours turnaround.

    + Organizes and manages cardiac device waiting list (holters, event monitors, ABP monitors) coordinating send out of routine devices with care team, family, and UPS.

    + Fits and applies 24-hour ABP monitors. Processes and creates 24-hour ABP study reports when device is returned.

    + Files/faxes to appropriate respondent.

    + Utilizes organizational skills to track Holter monitor and event recorder patients to ensure study data is complete and accurate.

    + Charges for completed procedures by entering data on medical information system and compiles charges for professional fees.

    + Maintains patient diagnostic information on Excel spreadsheets.

    + Enters charges into the hospital computer system in a timely manner.

    + Provides statistical information to appropriate individual(s) and within timeframe established.

     

    Performs a variety of functions to ensure appropriate department supply levels and conduct routine maintenance on equipment.

     

    + Identifies and troubleshoots equipment problems and arranges for repairs and

    + Maintains adequate supply levels by ordering from internal and external suppliers.

    + EKG carts are kept stocked, and clean.

    + Routinely deletes old records off EKG system.

    + Holters, event recorders and stress test supplies ordered and maintains stock.

    + Supply kits are assembled to provide efficiency when needing to send out to the patient in the mail.

    + Cleans equipment routinely

    + Contacts proper people to repair or troubleshoot equipment.

    + Assist with training of other hospital staff to perform EKG’s and use of EKG equipment as needed.

    Education Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or G.E.D Required

    Experience Qualifications

    + Experience working with children Preferred and

    + Minimum 1 year of experience in outpatient Cardiology/Cardiac Diagnostics setting as well as acute care Preferred and

    + Experience performing pediatric EKGs, and event monitors Preferred and

    + Experience scanning 24/48-hour holter monitors Preferred

    Skills and Abilities

    + Knowledge of EKG, Holter scanning and stress testing required. (Medium proficiency)

    + Knowledge of Spacelabs Holter and ABP monitors and scanning desired. (Medium proficiency)

    + Knowledge of basic computer skills. (Low proficiency)

    + Knowledge of medical terminology (Medium proficiency)

    + Advanced ECG Recognition/ Experience performing 15 lead pediatric ECGs required. (Medium proficiency)

    + Ability to identify and recognize arrhythmias and abnormalities on ECGs/Holter recordings. (Medium proficiency)

    + Ability to work on call, as needed. (Medium proficiency)

    Licenses and Certifications

    + Health Services\BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and

    + CCT - Certified Cardiographic Technician within 1 Year Required or

    + Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) Certification is within 1 Year Required and

    + Must pass arrhythmia recognition exam during interview process. Required and

    + ACLS Current and valid Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) certification Preferred and

    + PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Preferred and

    + Completes 30 CEUs every 3 years to maintain certification. Required
