    The Chinese Families Lab (https://chinesefamilieslab.weebly.com/) at NYU invites applications for a full-time senior research scientist position. The successful candidate will help coordinate data collection and analyze data of a 20-year longitudinal study that investigates parenting, parent-child relationships, emotion regulation and socialization, and socioemotional adjustment, and help prepare manuscripts for publication. The longitudinal study includes an Infant Cohort (now in late years of high school) and an Adolescent Cohort (now in their late 20s and early 30s). We will conduct the 8th wave follow-up of the Infant Cohort and 5th wave follow-up of the Adolescent Cohort. The initial appointment is for one year, but renewable for a second year based on performance and funding.

    Position Responsibilities

    This position will require a diverse set of tasks, including:

    + Finding, contacting, and recruiting our study participants

    + Overseeing survey, observational, and interview data collection and management

    + Conducting data analyses

    + Participating in preparing conference presentations and scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals

    + Supervising research assistants

     

    This position will work closely with Dr. Niobe Way in New York, NY and Dr. Lixian Cui in Shanghai and Nanjing, China, as well as other team members including Dr. Hirokazu Yoshikawa and Dr. Sumie Okazaki.

     

    This position will supervise 2 part-time employees and 8 graduate or undergraduate students.

     

    In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000-$97,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

     

    Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be hybrid. This position will also require travel to Shanghai or Nanjing.

    Successful applicants will:

    + Hold a doctoral degree in developmental psychology, applied developmental psychology, human development and family science, or a related area.

    + Have experience finding, contacting, and recruiting participants for longitudinal research is preferred. Applicants will be focused on this task with our sample participants, some of whom we haven't had contact with for over a decade.

    + Demonstrate strong statistical skills and a strong interest in socioemotional development

    + Have experience supervising research assistants, evidence of independent scholarship, and outstanding academic English writing skills

    + Mandarin fluency is required

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work in an international environment

    Background in any of the following areas will be a plus:

    + Analytical skills with longitudinal data, such as structural equation modeling and multilevel modeling (preferably using Mplus, HLM, or R program)

    + Experiences with collecting and analyzing behavioral coding

    + Proficient in both written and spoken English
