Position Summary...

What you'll do...

The Senior Director, Executive & Internal Communications will work closely with the VP, Corporate Communications for Sam’s Club to serve as the executive communications lead for the Sam’s Club president and CEO. This role will work directly with the CEO to shape content consistent with the Sam’s Club narrative, identify strategic platforms internally and externally on which to tell our story, and develop materials to support these activities including speeches, presentations, fact sheets, briefing materials, and more. The role will also serve as the internal communications lead, ensuring associates are aligned behind our strategy and understand where the business is headed.

In addition, this leader will supervise a team of executive communications professionals who support Walmart’s C-suite corporate function business partners in Finance, People, Global Governance, Corporate Affairs, and Global Tech. This associate will lead the team responsible for developing content strategies for flawlessly executing major internal events, such as our a Year Beginning Meeting, Associates Week, Holiday Meeting and large CEO meetings.

What you'll do:

+ Prepare presentations, speeches, business-wide messages and talking points around key moments for both internal and external audiences.

+ Design executive communications plans and platforms that showcase Sam’s Club industry leadership and strategy. Determine the right swim lanes for the Sam’s Club leadership team, starting with the CEO.

+ Apply creative ways to tell stories and determine the ways to reach and engage with key audiences.

+ Continuously challenge and improve the effectiveness of communication efforts and monitor and analyze communication activities to inform future decision making.

+ Prepare, coach and staff CEO and other leaders as needed for speaking engagements.

+ Use technology including GenAI to ensure you and your team operate effectively and efficiently.

What you’ll bring:

+ Ability to think holistically, ability to influence, strong writer and presenter of ideas.

+ Ability to work in and manage complex situations (i.e. work in the gray), and business curiosity/understanding.

+ Learning the business intimately, establishing trust, and using strategic and solutions-focused communications as a tool to drive the business forward is the heart of this role.

+ A person successful in this role can work in a horizontal, cross-functional environment

+ Confidence and expertise to coach senior leaders on speech and content delivery.

+ Expert speechwriting ability with a background writing for CEOs and/or senior government officials.

+ Proven people leadership.

+ Exemplary communications skills and engaging executive presence.

+ Masterful ability to make complex subject matter easily understood.

+ Background in retail, eCommerce or tech industry storytelling.

+ Experience working across organizations with global scale.

+ Portfolio that illustrates an innate ability to develop creative content in addition to clear, persuasive, compelling communications.

+ Problem solver and critical thinker whose natural curiosity leads to continuous improvement.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$260,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field and 6 years’ experience in journalism, communications, or relevant area OR 8 years’ experience in journalism, communications, or relevant area.

2 years’ supervisory experience.
