    OSSA Accountability Assistant Director

    Position Summary

    The Assistant Director manages the student support and case management needs regarding student organizations for the Office of Student Support & Accountability. The role works closely within the staff of the Office of Student Support & Accountability and regularly collaborates with: Residence Education and Housing Services, Student Affairs units, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Community Relations, Department of Police and Public Safety, academic colleges, Residential and Hospitality Services, Office for Civil Rights and Title IX Education and Compliance, Office of the General Counsel and community members to support students through outreach, case management, and reporting for the Office of Student Support & Accountability student conduct process. This position also hires, supervises and evaluates the conduct coordinator and/or investigator positions.

    The Assistant Director reports to the Student Life Manager in the Office of Student Support & Accountability and is responsible for the following:

    + Case management of the student organization conduct system;

    + Adjudicate student conduct (including individual student, student organization, and academic integrity) cases;

    + Serve as primary point of contact for student organization conduct matters;

    + Hire, supervise, and evaluate the conduct coordinator and/or investigator positions;

    + Investigate potential violations of university policy by student organizations;

    + Use evidence-based and best-practice interventions related to student organization conduct, student conduct, academic integrity, and college student development;

    + Promote civility, student organization, and individual student accountability;

    + Coordinate cases with Office of Student Support & Accountability staff and other campus partners;

    + Provide consultation to MSU faculty, staff, and students regarding conduct;

    + Prepare, present, and share data regularly regarding student organization conduct cases;

    + Utilize a trauma-informed approach to working with students;

    + Engage in assessment of the Office of Student Support & Accountability processes to ensure the diverse needs of the student population is addressed; and

    + Consider the needs of students including support for students of different backgrounds.

    Minimum Requirements

    Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Masters in Student Affairs Administration, Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, Counselor Education; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in developing and implementing programs, policies and procedures and supervising and coordinating staff; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    + Five to eight years of professional experience in a college or university setting.

    + Experience in student conduct as a primary function of role.

    + Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build relationships.

    + Familiarity with alternative dispute resolution and/or restorative or transformative justice.

    + Working knowledge of higher education law, FERPA, and electronic record-keeping systems (Advocate).

    + Knowledge of student organizations (may include fraternity and sorority life, intramural sports, identity-based organizations, student governance, academic organizations, and/or honor societies).

    + Experience navigating a complex system of multiple offices/partners.

    + Experience in crisis management.

    + Experience utilizing trauma-informed models of care.

    + Strong administrative skills.

    + Strong oral and written communication skills.

    + Training in mental health response, continuation of care, suicide prevention, substance abuse, behavior threat analysis, de-escalation, restorative justice, bystander intervention, hazing, threat assessment, and/or active listening.

    + Ability to listen to and process different perspectives from one's own.

    + Ability to manage and de-escalate crisis situations.

    + Ability to listen to and process different perspectives from one's own.

    + Ability to motivate others and facilitate collaborative discussions.
