Who we are looking for
Purpose
As the Senior Director, Global Scientific Engagement and Innovation, you will spearhead the strategy, development, and execution of global scientific communications, medical information, early access/compassionate use programs, and medical education initiatives. This pivotal leadership role demands a bold innovator who can harness AI and omnichannel strategies, including a robust global congress strategy, to transform HCP engagement, streamline operations, and amplify our impact. Leading a dedicated team and collaborating cross-functionally, you will drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and help to position Chiesi as a leader in rare disease through 2030 and beyond.
Please note, position is flexible to Boston hybrid or remote.
Main Responsibilities
+ Architect a global scientific communication strategy that powerfully conveys complex rare disease data to HCPs, payers, and patient advocacy groups, in collaboration with the Global franchise heads.
+ Oversee the creation of compelling, compliant content (e.g., publications, congress materials, digital assets) that sets the standard for scientific excellence.
+ Position Chiesi as a thought leader by translating emerging rare disease trends into impactful narratives for global stakeholders.
+ Partner with R&D, clinical development, regulatory, and commercial teams to ensure seamless, consistent messaging across all platforms.
+ Lead the global medical information function, delivering rapid, accurate, and compliant responses to HCP inquiries across diverse markets.
+ Champion the selection and implementation of AI-powered tools to revolutionize medical information workflows and elevate HCP experiences.
+ Develop a scalable, AI-integrated medical information platform to enable real-time, personalized support within omnichannel ecosystems.
+ Direct global early access and compassionate use programs, ensuring compliance with varied regulatory frameworks (e.g., FDA, EMA, and other health authorities).
+ Leverage AI and data analytics to streamline patient eligibility, track outcomes, and enhance program accessibility and impact.
+ Build trusted relationships with patient advocacy groups, HCPs, and regulators to expand program reach and patient benefit.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally to design a global omnichannel strategy to deliver seamless, data-driven HCP interactions across digital and in-person channels (e.g., webinars, virtual congresses, social media, CRM platforms).
+ Support the development of a global congress strategy for the delivery of scientific data through major international and regional congresses, ensuring impactful presentations, posters, symposia, and digital engagements that amplify Chiesi’s presence and influence.
+ Oversee the development and execution of innovative medical education programs, leveraging AI for personalized content delivery, virtual reality simulations, gamification, and adaptive learning to empower HCPs with cutting-edge knowledge on rare diseases.
+ Ensure medical education initiatives and congress activities align with scientific communication strategies, meet regulatory standards, and address evolving HCP needs through data-driven insights.
+ Harness predictive analytics to anticipate HCP educational and congress engagement needs, delivering tailored content that drives therapy adoption and strengthens relationships.
+ Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of AI platforms and related systems to transform scientific communications, medical information, early access, medical education, and congress strategies.
+ Drive team adoption of AI tools through training and change management, fostering a culture of innovation and technological fluency.
+ Collaborate with IT, data science, and external partners to integrate AI solutions (e.g., predictive modeling, automated content generation, compliance monitoring) into core workflows.
+ Stay ahead of technological trends (e.g., generative AI, blockchain for data security) to ensure Chiesi becomes a trailblazer in medical affairs through 2030.
+ Lead a team of professionals, inspiring a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
+ Drive cross-functional synergy with global franchise heads, patient advocacy, R&D, regulatory, and commercial teams to align strategies and achieve organizational goals.
Experience Required
+ Required Skills:
+ • 10+ years of experience in medical affairs, scientific communications, medical information, or medical education within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
+ Deep expertise in rare disease therapeutics and navigating global regulatory frameworks for early access programs.
+ Proven track record of developing and executing global congress strategies to deliver scientific data effectively to HCPs and other stakeholders.
+ Demonstrated ability to evaluate, select, and implement AI-driven tools or digital solutions in a medical affairs or medical education context.
+ Advanced knowledge of omnichannel strategies and digital platforms for global HCP engagement, education, and congress participation.
+ Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex science for diverse global audiences.
+ Visionary, tech-forward mindset with a history of driving transformative change in a regulated environment.
+ Strong leadership experience managing teams and fostering cross-functional collaboration in a small to mid-sized company.
+ Preferred Skills:
+ Knowledge of emerging medical education and congress engagement trends, such as gamification, virtual reality, or adaptive learning.
+ Established relationships with global rare disease patient advocacy networks and familiarity with compassionate use regulations.
+ Proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools to drive evidence-based decision-making.
+ Expertise with CRM platforms (e.g., Veeva) and AI-driven analytics tools.
Education
Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or medical field.
