    Note to applicants: This posting will be used to fill multiple vacancies. The posting is being announced for two different classes at the same time, Transportation Generalist Senior and Transportation Generalist. Attempts will be first made to fill the positions at the Transportation Generalist Senior level and then if not filled at that level, the positions may be filled at the Transportation Generalist level.

     

    This position is located at district headquarters in Roseville and may have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule that includes in office and teleworking up to 50% of the time. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

    _Job Duties:_** **Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:

    • Completes computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) functions and calculations and applies Open Roads Designer and other software programs used to perform technical detail designing and drafting of plans and preliminary layouts.

    • Gathers data from other functional areas and follows standards for drafting construction plan(s) and reviews to ensure compliance with CADD data standards and MnDOT’s design standards.

    • Creates /revises alignments, profiles, cross-sections and super elevations for construction plans.

    • Computes estimated quantities and pay items for construction plans.

    • Assists in developing and designing elements for construction plans to ensure MnDOT, AASHTO, and FHWA standards are met.

    • Uses and maintains project information in an efficient manner so information is readily available for plan preparation and other uses.

    • Generates cross-sections and assists with construction limits and earthwork computations.

    • Reviews drawings, calculations, tabulations, and other products in accordance with MnDOT’s Quality Management Process.

    • Assists with cost estimates and in making design decisions with prescribed limits.

    • Conducts background research on assigned issues.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Exam Part 1:** **The level of experience to perform this job at the TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR level can be achieved with:

    • Two years of experience performing roadway, bridge or transportation design activities using Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) or equivalent or related activities.

    OR

    • One year of experience performing roadway, bridge or transportation design activities using CADD or equivalent **AND** one year experience performing preliminary design, roadway or bridge construction, materials, soils, surveys, and/or right of way or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience performing design activities.

    • **Educational Substitution:** A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts.)

    • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

     

    If these positions are not filled at the Transportation Generalist Senior level, they may be filled at the Transportation Generalist level by utilizing the following minimum qualifications.

    The level of experience to perform this job at the TG level can be achieved with:

    • One (1) year of experience utilizing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) or related activities

    OR

    • A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

    + Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

    For both the Transportation Generalist Senior and Transportation Generalist levels:

    **Exam Part 2:** Candidates who are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 5 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 5 or higher. If you’ve previously taken and passed the math and reading assessments, you may be exempt from retesting.

    Physical Requirements

    The physical demands of this job will vary, but may require walking, moving, standing, to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
