    Job Summary and Qualifications

    GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

    The Communications Specialist Lead provides leadership, direction, and completes administrative duties for AirLife Communications to ensure accomplishment of our organizational mission and objectives.

     

    In coordination with the AirLife Communications Manager, assures quality communications. Assists in developing communications standards, protocols, policies and procedures. Identifies and provides educational activities for staff. Collaborates with the Communications Manager, AVP, Safety Chair and Committee, Team, Vendors, Lead Pilots, Ground CCT Supervisors on program safety. Supports research projects and provides input on operations/processes that will benefit both the center and the program. Will participate in interviewing applicants, candidate selection, scheduling, and guide day-to-day performance expectations for the Communications Center team. Must be able to function in the role of Communications Specialist and is scheduled as such. Administrative duties will occur while on duty as call volume allows, or as special circumstances require. Acts as peer and liaison to specialty team coordinators.

    DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    In addition to fulfilling Communications Specialist job description and regularly scheduled as such:

    + Serve as positive leader/resource person in all aspects but not limited to: training, technology, communications, customer service and coordination within AirLife’s Communications Center

    + Has the responsibility and authority to lead the Communication Team, resolve routine issues, and create a positive, productive, and fiscally responsible department

    + Collaborates with Communications Manager, AVP, Safety Chair and Committee, Team, Vendors and Lead Pilots/EMT on Safety issues/improvements

    + Assists in creation of the agenda for routine meetings for the Communication Center. Document all meeting minutes and ensure information is dispersed to the team as needed

    + Assists with new Communications Specialists interviewing, candidate selection, orientation, and can function as the Primary Preceptor. Assists with new hire orientation, placement with other preceptors, daily observation documentation requirements, and training fulfillment expectations

    + Assists with development/writing/reviewing of communication standards, protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and topics. Seek out and develop best practices at AirLife and ensure CAMTS and JCAHO compliance objectives are met

    + Assists with maintenance of certifications, course completion, and compliance to ensure all staff are current with all requirements

    + Assists with department Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives. Perform QSMS reviews, call reviews and other QA/QI duties as assigned

    + Assist in identifying, locating, and providing targeted initial and continued educational opportunities and activities to all crewmembers and Communication Specialists on communication services, technological systems in use at AirLife Denver, and other areas identified by departmental need

    + Assists with the creation and maintenance of the Communications Center Schedule. Operates as a Communications Center contact in finding coverage for open shifts, advising on open shifts and assistance in developing coverage plans for open shifts

    + Perform on call duties to ensure adequate coverage in the Communications Center at all times. Facilitate scheduling to ensure that coverage is maintained, which may include overtime

    + Assists with preparation of Annual Report to include projects completed, goals attained, and future plans as directed by the Communications Manager

    + Assists with recommending, purchasing, programming (in house), distribution and contract management on all AirLife Denver Nextel devices, Verizon Devices, and Paging Devices

    + Functions as a Technical Support Liaison with regards to Golden Hour Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to include follow up and reporting of issues and tracking

    + Liaise with Swedish Medical Center, HealthONE, and HCA IS/IT departments to develop innovative solutions to technological issues at AirLife Denver. Strive to maintain positive relationship between the IS/IT departments and AirLife Denver

    + Attend meetings, classes, and seminars as needed or as requested based on AirLife needs and requirements

    + POSITION REQUIREMENTS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    + Knowledge of the principles and practices of air medical and EMS communications operations and/or healthcare management

    + Knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding transport and communications

    + Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

    + Interact with other healthcare providers and local government officials

    + Ensure departmental productivity. Is assertive and responsible in developing and maintaining high levels of team performance

    + Establish and attain organizational goals and objectives

    + Ability to work in an evolving healthcare environment

    + Exercise a high degree of judgment, initiative, discretion, and decision-making

    + Fluent with various programming languages, radio and computer terms. Able to mediate between technical minded and non-technical minded stakeholders

    + Knowledge of HCA Human Resources policies and procedures as it pertains to AirLife Employees and participates in guidance of personnel EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree completed/in progress in healthcare administration, computer science, business administration, or communications preferred. Applicable experience in the healthcare/aviation field may be considered as an equivalency EXPERIENCE: Two years’ experience in a Flight Dispatch Communications Center or other aviation related field preferred. Experience in Public Safety, EMS or 911 communications with combined experience in an IS/IT environment preferred. One year of supervisory experience in a communications center or equivalent preferred LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION: International Association of Medical Transport Communication Specialists (IAMTCS, formerly known as NAACS) Certified Flight Communicator certification is preferred within two years of hire
