    DEFINITION

    The Community Development Coordinator supports the delivery of high-impact services to low-income communities across San Diego County by overseeing a team of Community Resource Navigators and managing community food distribution efforts. This position plays a critical role in expanding access to resources, improving community engagement, and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery across MAAC’s affordable housing sites and STEP Centers.

     

    The Coordinator will also be responsible for building strategic partnerships with public and private sector organizations to enhance programming, support economic mobility, and increase access to services. This position helps develop scalable and engaging programming to maximize resident participation in events and services, while ensuring data is accurately tracked through CRM systems.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Team Leadership & Oversight

    + Supervise and support a team of Community Resource Navigators assigned to multiple sites across San Diego County.

    + Provide hands-on coaching, performance monitoring, and professional development support to ensure high-quality service delivery.

    + Foster team collaboration and cross-site coordination to promote consistency and shared learning.

    + Set and monitor clear goals, expectations, and service standards for community engagement efforts.

    + Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies to build a strong community development team.

    Food Distribution Management

    + Oversee monthly food distribution efforts at MAAC sites in partnership with the San Diego Food Bank and other providers.

    + Coordinate food delivery logistics, site setup, and volunteer scheduling and supervision.

    + Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support food distribution and community events.

    + Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of food assistance metrics.

    Program Coordination & Scalability

    + Develop scalable outreach strategies and resident engagement activities to drive participation in MAAC programs.

    + Design and implement outreach calendars and communication plans in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team.

    + Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to integrate services and maximize resident impact.

    + Ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements through strong documentation and follow-through.

    Partnership Development

    + Build and maintain relationships with public and private partners to enhance resident access to health, housing, employment, education, and financial empowerment resources.

    + Represent MAAC at community events, coalitions, and collaborative working groups.

    + Proactively identify opportunities for programming and funding alignment that support long-term economic mobility for residents.

    Data & Reporting

    + Utilize MAAC’s case management system (Salesforce) and other CRM platforms to track services, monitor program outcomes, and guide continuous improvement.

    + Ensure team members are trained on data entry, documentation, and reporting best practices.

    + Support reporting needs by compiling data for internal and external stakeholders.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    Knowledge of:

    + Local social services, food security programs, and resource networks in San Diego County.

    + Principles of program coordination, team leadership, and community engagement.

    + Volunteer coordination and outreach best practices.

    + CRM platforms (preferably Salesforce) for service tracking and case management.

    Ability to:

    + Supervise, mentor, and motivate a geographically dispersed team.

    + Design and implement scalable, engaging programs for residents.

    + Build collaborative relationships with community partners, residents, and colleagues.

    + Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

    + Balance multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    + Travel between MAAC sites in San Diego County as needed.

    + Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (for food distribution and event setup).

    + Occasionally work evenings or weekends based on community need.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

    + Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Community Development, or related field preferred.

    + Minimum of two (2) years of experience in community outreach, program coordination, or nonprofit program leadership.

    + Experience supervising or leading staff or volunteers.

    + Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

    + Valid California driver’s license.

    HEALTH STATUS

    Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

    Physical Demands

     

    While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

     

    Mental Demands

     

    While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

    BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

    All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

     

    Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

    TRANSPORTATION

    Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC’s insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
