Description
Our client is a boutique law firm deeply specialized in affordable housing and community development law, including public finance, tax credit structures, and complex real estate transactions. Their clients are typically non-profit and for-profit developers working on impact-driven housing projects across California.
What You’ll Do:
+ Support Real Estate Closings: Assist on transactions needing support with title, easements, loan documents, and closing mechanics
+ Review Finance Documents: Work with term sheets, bond documents, loan agreements, and related materials
+ Navigate Regulatory Layers: Collaborate with cities, counties, and state agencies on entitlements, public subsidies, and compliance
+ Draft/Review: Opinion letters, easement agreements, and closing certificates
+ Collaborate with Developers: Represent owner/operators, developers, and other real estate entities
+ Interface with Clients: Act as a go-to advisor on the real estate components of larger affordable housing finance transactions
Ideal Background:
+ 7–10+ years of experience in commercial real estate law (multifamily preferred)
+ Familiarity with affordable housing finance a plus, but not required (LIHTC, bonds, etc.)
+ Comfortable reviewing loan docs, title, easements, and working with institutional lenders
+ Can handle bare-bones real estate work but appreciates the nuance of complex finance deals
+ Either law firm or in-house/corporate RE background is acceptable
+ Doesn’t need to be admitted in California, but must be comfortable with CA law
+ Strong communication skills and ability to work autonomously in a collaborative and respectful small firm setting
Requirements • A minimum of 7–10 years of experience in commercial real estate law, with a preference for multifamily housing expertise.
• Familiarity with affordable housing finance, including bonds and tax credits, is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Proficiency in reviewing loan documents, titles, and easements, and experience working with institutional lenders.
• Strong understanding of California real estate laws, although admission to the California Bar is not required.
• Ability to handle basic real estate transactions while appreciating the intricacies of complex financial deals.
• Background in either a law firm or in-house/corporate real estate setting.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple transactions and deadlines effectively.
