    Summary The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment. Responsibilities This position is located within the Investigations Division (ID) of the Protective Services Bureau (PSB). ID is responsible for investigating criminal activity occurring on U.S. Capitol Grounds; collecting information to determine the potential for criminal activity; assessing threats to the legislative branch, statutory protectees, congressional facilities, congressional employees and the visiting public; monitoring and coordinating investigations affecting the legislative branch with local, state, and other Federal agencies; and exchanging information and intelligence with other governmental agencies. The applicant selected to fill this position will serve as a Supervisory Special Agent in any of its three sections: Threat Assessment Section (TAS), Criminal Investigations Section (CIS), Protective Intelligence Operations Center (PIOC). As an Investigations Division Supervisory Special Agent, you will: Supervise assigned subordinates, to include; conducting personnel counseling, development, and mentoring; conducting observation, communication and documentation of performance and conduct; taking appropriate commendation or corrective action; conducting and writing performance evaluations; and scheduling appropriate and/or required training and development opportunities. Provide oversight and instruction to agents for the purpose of conducting investigative operations, and to provide congressional protection through investigative measures. Monitor adherence to policies, procedures and protocols of assigned personnel and evaluate operational effectiveness. Investigate criminal activity involving violations of the D.C. Code and Title 18, U.S. Code; Collect, evaluate, interpret, and disseminate information related to the mission of the ID; prepare and disseminate written reports including reports of investigation, various investigative assessments, and investigations bulletins; perform a full range of comprehensive investigative functions to include planning, organizing, fact-finding, and reporting results on cases ranging from routine to highly complex; perform protective intelligence operations, coordinating investigative and operational efforts with other USCP sworn officers and outside agency officials; serve as a liaison with local, state, and Federal law enforcement agencies; conduct surveillance, surveillance detection, and counter surveillance operations; and represent the USCP during investigative and law enforcement meetings. Note: More than one selection may be made from this vacancy announcement. The selection list for this vacancy announcement will be active for a period of 12 months from the date of approval of the selection memorandum. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a current USCP Officer below the rank of Lieutenant and have attained the rank of Sergeant by the closing date of this announcement. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance. Must possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license. Must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued travel card. Must be available to work flexible and/or additional hours and travel on short notice. Qualifications 1. Must be a current USCP Officer below the rank of Lieutenant and have attained the rank of Sergeant by the closing date of this announcement. 2. Must possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license. License status and driving record will be checked as a part of the application process. 3. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the closing date of this announcement. 4. Must not have a sustained CP-535, Request for Disciplinary Action, within the previous 12 months of this announcement closing date. 5. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status to attend, participate, and successfully complete all required training courses related to this position as of the date of selection unless otherwise authorized by law (e.g., performance of duty injury, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)). 6. Must be available to work flexible and/or additional hours and travel on short notice. Education There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade. This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions. This position is not included in a collective bargaining unit. RETENTION CRITERIA: 1. Must maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance. 2. Must maintain a travel card. 3. Must successfully complete all required training to include, but not limited to Criminal Investigator Training Program at Glynco, GA. 4. Must complete a one-year probationary period. 5. Must maintain all required certifications associated with this position. 6. Must maintain continuous satisfactory performance in this position. 7. Must assume on-call and re-call duties that require rapid response during off duty hours and weekends when needed. 8. Must maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license.
