The primary purpose of this position is to troubleshoot, install, modify, repair, and adjust a variety of aircraft ordnance systems such as missile and special weapons launching devices, decoys, egress and jettison systems, and rocket launching equipment. Responsibilities - Troubleshoots a variety of total aircraft ordnance systems such as missile and special weapons launching devices, decoys, egress and jettison systems, and rocket launching equipment - Repairs, modifies, and adjusts the ordnance system to conform to specifications - Conducts "power on" check of the aircraft ordnance system by energizing the system with APU power source - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, modify, and test systems of a variety of aircraft ordnance systems such as missile and special weapons launching devices, decoys, egress and jettison systems, and rocket launching equipment; set up the work area; determine the degree of disassembly necessary; and the extent of rework needed. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Skill in the use of test equipment and measuring devices such as leak detectors, feeler gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, bore sight tools, multimeters, voltmeters, and ammeters. 4. Ability to interpret and apply technical orders, technical manuals, blueprints, schematic drawings, and other technical information. 5. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, modify, adjust and test a variety of aircraft ordnance systems using electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles of operation such as missile and special weapons launching devices, decoys, egress and jettison systems, and rocket launching equipment without more than normal supervision. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires standing, bending, stooping, climbing, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and in hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed either inside or outside, and subjects the employee to prevailing weather conditions, noise, slippery or uneven surfaces, and working in confined areas. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, grease, oil, dirt, electrical shock, and possible injury when de-arming and arming the system.
