Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Airport Security Technician I with the Garden City Regional Airport. This position performs functions to assist the Airport Security Manager in planning, organizing, monitoring, and managing all aspects of airport security. The position provides a wide variety of security-related duties. The position works independently and is supervised and uses considerable independent judgment in dealing with difficult situations.
Examples of Duties
+ Apply extensive knowledge of the Transportation Security Administration federal regulations that apply to a commercial service airport and ensure regulatory compliance.
+ Responsible for assisting the Airport Security Manager in all security systems, including employee and tenant badging (processing security access requests, issuing security access identification media, and access control materials), computer-controlled security monitoring systems and access control systems including all cameras, doors, gates, and access points.
+ Communicate with employees, tenants, operators, contractors, consultants, engineers, architects, vendors, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), airlines, and the public regarding security matters, rules, and regulations.
+ Performs repetitive security inspections of the airport operations area (AOA), restricted access area (RAA), Security Identification Display Area (SIDA), secured area, and sterile area.
+ Performs a variety of tasks, including security patrols, badge applications, access control issuance forms, and security challenge procedures, and conducts personnel, vehicle, and equipment security inspections. Documents discrepancies.
+ Responsible for handling AOA escorts for businesses or entities that are required to be on the ramp to accomplish their work duties.
+ Answers security calls, concerns, and complaints received and addresses them appropriately.
+ Respond to airport security emergencies and perform duties appropriately.
+ Enforces airport parking regulations.
+ Interacts with the public on a regular basis and places a high value on public perception of the city employee workforce, due to the highly visible nature of the job.
+ Assists with snow/ice removal from sidewalks and walkways throughout the airport property. This is mainly manual labor with occasional use of equipment.
+ May be responsible for assisting with grass mowing in the summer.
+ Read, understand, and apply complex policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to airport safety and security.
+ Routinely meets with supervisor to review work assignments, use of security equipment, special projects, and quality assurance.
+ Create reports and documents needed for work assignments.
+ Performs any other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of methods and procedures used for safety and security. Knowledge of safety and security practices and equipment. Skill in the operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook. Be able to adapt to new computer programs and technology. Ability to perform physical work activities. Ability to communicate with City employees, tenants, vendors, contacts, and the public.
Education, Certification and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Prior security experience is desired or related experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to pass a rigorous background check. Ability to pass a physical exam. Valid Driver’s License required. Must obtain a Kansas Driver’s License within 60 days of establishing residency.
Supplemental Information
Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather. Most of the work is performed indoors; however, outdoors work is subject to moderate to extreme cold and heat, snow, rain, hail, sleet, high and gusting winds, dust, and dry conditions. Indoor work is performed in a controlled environment.
Physical Characteristics: Includes, but is not limited to, repetitive motions, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, holding, standing, walking, jumping, sitting, driving, and the ability to lift 26-50 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to stay awake during mundane activities. Must be able to scale two flights of stairs repetitively during the day.
