Sr. Research Associate 2
The University of Miami/UHealth department of The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Research Associate 2 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Senior Research Associate 2, SOM ensures that the operations of the assigned laboratory are efficient and in compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations. Moreover, this employee engages in complex and specialized research activities in furtherance of the University’s research goals and objectives.

+ Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining databases.
+ Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
+ Participates in the publication of significant results.
+ Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research.
+ Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
+ Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
+ Stays abreast of developments in the field which may impact department functions.
+ Provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior research staff and students.
+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
The Senior Research Associate 2 will manage the Viral Vector Core Facility within the Miami Project and will perform various projects. The individual will have frequent interactions with a broad range of scientists with expertise in molecular biology, neurobiology, genetics, bioinformatics and molecular pharmacology at the Department of Neurological Surgery, other departments in UM and researchers from external institutes.
+ Perform molecular biology techniques such as site directed mutagenesis, shRNA, Crispr/Cas9, DNA/plasmid cloning, real time PCR.
+ Design and validate vector with various promoters and enhancers, and regulatory elements
+ Generate various viral particles including AAV and lentiviruses
+ Perform primary neuronal (and glial) cell cultures.
+ Perform western blot, shRNA validation, in situ hybridization
+ Develop appropriate experiments and help write publications on the findings after careful scrutiny of the results.
+ Keep a detailed and accurate record of all research performed and to assist in writing of grants.
+ Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies, participate in weekly lab meetings, including presenting results and methods to group members; plan weekly work schedules. Keep detailed laboratory notebooks and maintain documents relating to standard-operating procedures and vectors. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts.
+ Present findings at lab meetings and departmental seminars.

Core Qualifications
+ Master’s Degree in relevant field required
+ Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
+ Prior experience with viral vectors is valuable and prior experience with cell culture is required. Prior experience with cloning DNA and Molecular biology is expected.

+ Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
+ Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
+ Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
