Bemis Public Library has an opening for a Library Associate to join a talented Technical Services team to catalog library materials, prepare items for circulation, sustain the integrity of the library database system, and perform bibliographic maintenance activities within the operations of the library.
The ideal candidate is organized, curious, and committed to the ongoing development of their professional and technical skills. They will have a strong attention to detail and accuracy as well as a collaborative team focus. An interest in process improvement and substantial knowledge of library systems or database management is a plus.

Hiring pay range $25.39 - $26.73 per hour
This full-time position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
**Work Schedule** : This full-time position will be expected to work 40 hours per week, generally within normal business hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Responsible for copy cataloging newly acquired library materials in a variety of formats.
+ Responsible for physical processing of new library materials and/or overseeing the processing work of assigned volunteers.
+ Responsible for creating and maintaining catalog records in the Library’s Sierra database, correcting catalog errors, printing updated spine labels, and reclassifying collections as needed.
+ Assists with routine collection maintenance tasks and item record updates for collection development librarians.
+ Communicates effectively with collection selectors and other library colleagues about processing priorities and the status of collections in the cataloging queue.
+ Participates in Technical Services division activities including meetings, trainings, and planning sessions.
+ Follows established cataloging procedures and assists with maintaining accurate process and policy documentation for the division.
+ May perform original cataloging or substantially enhance minimal-level bibliographic records as needed.
+ May be responsible for record de-duplication and correcting grouped work errors in the shared (Marmot) catalog and online discovery layer.
+ May assist with bindery order processing and/or receiving.
+ May evaluate damaged items and mend or repair library materials in a variety of formats.
+ May provide backup for other Technical Services operations including serials processing or receiving shipments of new acquisitions.
+ Monitors Tech Services supply inventory and notifies supervisor of order requests.
+ May support other library divisions as needed or serve on various internal and external committees.
+ Performs other assignments and projects as required.
+ May serve as an Emergency Worker.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor’s degree with coursework in literature, the humanities, social sciences, computer science or a related field; and
+ Two (2) years of Public Library experience; or
+ An equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
+ Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Cataloging experience in a library setting
+ Experience assigning Dewey call numbers
+ Ability to read Spanish language materials
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
+ Knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures, and the ability to apply this knowledge to various bibliographic formats.
+ Familiarity with MARC-encoded bibliographic records and library standards such as Dewey Decimal Classification, AACR2, RDA, FRBR, and Library of Congress authorities.
+ Strong technology skills including computer operations, web applications, and the use of an integrated library system (ILS) to search, navigate, and retrieve information.
+ Knowledge of library policies and professional guidelines regarding equitable access, privacy, and intellectual freedom.
+ Communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
+ Work for this position is performed indoors in a public building environment. This work includes exposure to dust from books, chemicals, and electrical hazards from computer equipment
+ Work is performed while standing; walking; and sitting.
+ Requires frequent lifting and carrying of books weighing 0-50 pounds, retrieving books and materials from shelves at heights ranging from one foot to seven feet; frequent lifting and retrieving of materials weighing 1-25 pounds at or above shoulder-height; frequent pushing of wheeled book carts weighing 75-100 pounds with or without assistance.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Daily use of a personal computer with Microsoft Office, internet, and cataloging software, barcode scanner, RFID pad, telephone, and multifunction printer/scanner/copier. Other equipment and materials used include: books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs and other media, barcode duplicator, book tape applicator, disc refinisher, label printer, laminator, and wheeled book carts.
