Position Description
Nashville/Davidson County is seeking experienced individuals to join the Land Development Division. It is an exciting time to be a part of a team that is shaping Nashville’s future. Current planning experience for a local government is desired.
The Planning Manager 2 will oversee the 26-person Land Development Team and supervise activities of professional, technical, and/or clerical staff working in the division.
The Metro Nashville Planning Department is comprised of planners and designers with expertise in land use, architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. These staff members provide analysis and recommendations throughout Metro Nashville on current planning and development, community planning, and urban design and landscape issues in a wide variety of urban, suburban, and rural contexts. The Land Development Division is responsible for current planning within the 526 square miles that make up Nashville/Davidson County, including review of rezoning requests, application of overlays, site plans, mandatory referrals, and subdivision requests. The Division also manages the bond process and oversees the Planning counter in the Development Services Center.
These positions qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness for qualifying loans.
Typical Duties
+ Oversees and directly manages Planning Manager 1 positions.
+ Ensures that development proposals are in compliance with regulations and overall department goals.
+ Works closely with members of the senior leadership team to ensure consistency of goals across divisions.
+ Develops and implements measures to improve productivity within the division and participates in the policy setting process.
+ Coordinates activities with other sections/divisions of the Planning Department and/or other Metropolitan departments.
+ Prepares items and makes presentations to the Metropolitan Planning Commission.
+ Attends meetings and speaks to the public as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Planning, or related field, from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of related experience.
OR
Master's Degree in Planning or related field from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of related experience.
LICENSES REQUIRED
Valid Driver License may be required for some positions in this classification.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
