Job Title: Land Survey Crew Chief
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Land Surveyor / Crew Chief to lead a crew on projects throughout the Southeastern region, based out of the Raleigh office, supporting projects around the coast of North Carolina. The ideal candidate will work independently and lead a small team, primarily consisting of two individuals. The major objectives of this position include ensuring quality, accuracy, thoroughness, clarity, regulatory compliance, and maintaining public relations, safety, meeting schedules, staying within budgets, and providing responsive service to clients.
Responsibilities
+ Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes that would affect the survey.
+ Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize work efforts.
+ Monitor the standard of work being performed and derive necessary field calculations from completed work.
+ Oversee the maintenance of instruments and equipment.
+ Ensure angles, distances, and collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards.
+ Coordinate project findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.
+ Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
+ Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
+ Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.
+ Complete daily logs and expense reports.
+ Fill out company and/or client safety forms and ensure all crew members follow safety procedures.
+ Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years of progressive experience in survey field operations, including at least 2 years as an Instrument Operator.
+ Proficiency in the operation of survey equipment such as Total Stations, Data Collectors, and GPS equipment.
+ Good technical skills and behavioral traits including being process-oriented, steady, helpful, analytical, a problem solver, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, precise, and structured.
+ Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and the use and care of survey tools and field equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
+ Some overnight travel may be required.
Work Environment
The position is based out of the Raleigh, NC office, with the majority of time spent in the field. There may be travel within the region, including North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Compensation will be provided for overnight stays when travel extends beyond a daily commute. The primary workload is within a daily commute, but there is an expectation for travel, which could be up to 60%.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
