    Job Description

    Summary

    The **Composite/Design Technician II** works closely with Manufacturing and Engineering teams in the production of composite structures and components.

    Position Responsibilities

    + Works in a production environment and will be responsible to adhere to weekly delivery schedules

    + Surface prep, using grit blast, hand abrade and power abrasion techniques

    + Assembly of composite structures including setup, bonding, and fastener applications

    + Works with and fabricates tooling, fixtures, jigs, etc. from a variety of materials

    + Prepreg and wet layup fabrication techniques, including vacuum bag processing, bonding, and oven/autoclave curing.

    + Machine shop equipment operation (mill, lathe, table saw, band saw, etc)

    + Works with and fabricates tooling, fixtures, jigs, etc. from one or more materials

    + Tooling fabrication from various materials such as aluminum, composites, and wood

    + Use precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, scales, micrometers) to check work performed

    + Adheres to all safety requirements

    + Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, following established procedures on routine work

    + Applies acquired job skills and company policies & procedures to complete assigned tasks under minimal supervision

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

    + High School diploma or GED equivalent is required

    + Minimum 1 – 2 years of composite fabrication experience or equivalent combination of experience and education

    + Experienced with Pre-preg and wet layup

    + Demonstrated knowledge of composite industry-specific structures, techniques and practices

    + Experienced with more complex composite materials and techniques

    + Demonstrated knowledge of reading precision measuring devices

    + Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity with the proper usage of mechanics hand tools and power tools and equivalent previous experienceBasic knowledge in using precision measuring tools (i.e. micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.)

    + Experienced in reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings

    + Demonstrated computer proficiency and ability to download work instructions, as applicable

    + Experienced in calculating math dimensions working with sample parts, sketches and/or verbal instructions for fabricating details, as required

    Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

    + Technical courses preferred

    + Experience in aircraft/aerospace assembly preferred

    + Works well in a team environment

    + Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties

    + Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives

    + Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products

    + Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company

    Physical Demands

    + Ability to work in a R&D and Production environment (Constant)

    + Must be able to lift and carry objects of varying sizes and shapes up to and between 10 lbs. (Frequently) and 20 lbs. (Occasional)

    + Requires ability to perform the following: reaching, handling, turning/twisting, lifting/lowering, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, contact with metals and composites, exposure to moving parts and tools, pinch points, sharp cutters and slipping hazards, noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, respiration, ears and feet. (Frequent)

    + May require working from high/exposed places, tight spaces and work from ladders (Occasional)

    + Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)
