THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will play a crucial role in assisting a bridge inspection team leader with various technical tasks related to the evaluation of bridges and structures, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). Your duties will involve performing safety inspections on existing bridges and analyzing structural elements, including foundations, supports, and other components. The inspections will encompass a variety of structural parts, such as concrete footings, steel beams, and safety features, while also identifying potential issues like damage from accidents and corrosion. You will be responsible for measuring and documenting the condition of bridge components, preparing comprehensive reports on your findings, and aiding in specialized inspections, including underwater assessments. Furthermore, the role entails maintaining precise inspection records, managing equipment, and ensuring adherence to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) documentation for state-owned structures. Effective communication with various stakeholders, including government agencies and the public, is essential for successful project management. You will also compile photographs, review sketches, and prepare inspection summaries, while drawing sketches, noting field plan changes, and maintaining consolidated reports on inspection progress and quality control related to the work performed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

+ Full-time employment

+ Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

+ You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.

+ Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

+ One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

+ Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

+ Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or

+ Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or

+ One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or

+ An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

+ This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
