THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is an independent agency led by the elected State Treasurer and one of the largest state treasuries in the country, serving as custodian of more than $150 billion. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Communications Specialist I, you will assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating media and public relations activities. This role includes creating and distributing content for various media platforms and assisting in planning media events. You will be responsible for preparing drafts for news releases, op-eds and other promotional information. This role also prepares and circulates the daily news clips for the Department. The Communications Specialist I also provides onsite assistance at events which may occur outside of standard work hours.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, mandatory three days a week in the office and work from home up to two days a week. Management may discontinue the telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ One year of professional experience in the field of communications/public relations; and a bachelor's degree with major course work in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field;or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Condition of Employment:
+ You must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Additional Requirements:
+ You must have working knowledge of the effective use of the English language and composition.
+ You must have experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, web-based utilities or the ability to learn relevant software to perform job duties.
+ You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
+ Experience using Adobe, Canva or other software
+ Experience prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines effectively and in assigned timeframes
+ Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently on assignments
