Position Overview:
Under general supervision, responsible for providing genetic counseling to all assigned clients. Oversee and participate in the counseling of patients on all genetically related matters including: risk assessment, overview of genetic testing, test results and implications, suggested follow-up and clinical trials enrollment. Works to continue to expand genetic testing and counseling services offered to patients. Responsible for maintaining professional relationships with referring clinicians, excellent patient service and educating both the community and clinical members on genetic counseling and testing updates.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1 PATIENT CARE AND ANALYTICAL THINKING
-Provides genetic counseling services to patients on a daily basis including risk assessment, family and medical history, as well as patient education (procedures, laboratory tests, risks and benefits).
-Provides case management for assigned patients: reporting of normal and abnormal results and generating consultation letters.
-Provides follow-up counseling as needed in person or by telephone
-Coordinates and facilitates sending of specimens to outside laboratories
-Works collaboratively with physician leadership to integrate Genetics Testing into infrastructure of various site programs.
COMMUNICATION
-Identifies insurance or billing problems and communicates with appropriate staff regarding their resolution.
-Works with physicians to inform them of the service and ensure appropriate patients are referred to the program.
-Advises and maintains documentations integrity, including patient letters, packets of information, consent forms for testing, etc.
-In conjunction with management oversight, develops genetic counseling policy and procedures.
-Develops, maintains and monitors a tracking system to follow high risk patients and patients “of interest” and ensure the participating physicians follow these patients in the manner prescribed.
FINANCIAL AND OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
-Assists in scheduling, billing, chart management and patient registration.
-Assists with on-going monitoring of program metrics
-In conjunction with the Manager, recommends and implements a marketing/outreach program to educate the community.
LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY
-Compiles reports required by the State Dept. of Health Services Genetics Disease Branch.
-Collaborates with physicians to ensure standards are being met.
-May maintain current base of knowledge on Cancer Genetics.
-Completes all required continuing education credits for licensure and accreditations.
-Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and in-services
EDUCATION:
+ Master's: Genetic Counseling
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
+ CGC-Certified Genetic Counselor
+ OR ABGC-American Board of Genetic Counseling
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
+ 2 year recent relevant experience
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
+ Understanding of clinical applications and standards necessary to provide comprehensive, current genetic services and counseling.
+ Familiar with input and data retrieval on computer database.
+ Good communication and interpersonal skills, good writing ability.
+ Knowledge and experience in the area of teamwork with health professionals.

Pay Range is $50.16 to $75.24 / hour
_The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package._
