Clearance:Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility (TS/SCI)

Work Schedule:Onsite Monday - Friday

Role Overview:

The COMSEC Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, and managing Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI) planning software while supporting test and engineering events by troubleshooting COMSEC issues as they arise. This role involves configuring layer 3 devices for IPSEC tunneling and routing protocols such as EIGRP and OSPF, as well as performing network performance tests across Layers 1–4 using tools like IXIA, Spirent, IPerf, and T-BERD. The engineer will also develop and implement automation and analysis tools using scripting environments such as Python, PowerShell, MATLAB, and LABVIEW to support data collection, reduction, and event logging. Additionally, they will operate traffic generators and network analyzers to ensure optimal network performance and may be required to lift and move radio equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.

Specific Skillset

+ Plan, design, and manage Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI) planning software.

+ Troubleshoot COMSEC issues in support of test and engineering events (estimate 1-2 times per month).

+ Configure layer 3 devices for Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC) and tunneling.

+ Configure routing protocols, such as Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), etc.

+ Operate traffic generator and network analyzers (estimate at least once per month).

+ Develop and use tools in scripting environments, such as IXIA, MATLAB, LABVIEW, Python, and PowerShell to support data collection and reduction, model and algorithm design, collection and analysis automation, and event logging.

+ Perform network throughput performance tests from Layer 1 (Physical Layer) to Layer 4 (Transport Layer) for radio network using IXIA, Spirent, Internet.

+ Performance (IPerf) and T-1 Bit Error Rate Detector (T-BERD) test tools monthly (estimate at least once per month).

+ Lift and move radio equipment (approximately 40 lbs.) as needed.

Requirements

Education & Certifications

+ Highschool Diploma or GED Equivalent

+ COMSEC Certifications are a plus

+ CompTIA Security+ & Network+ are preferred

+ CCNA/CCNP preferred

Experience Requirements

+ 3+ Years of relevant COMSEC and Networking experience

+ Demonstrated experience with IPSEC, routing and switching, and cryptographic information

+ Experience developing and using tools in scripting environments, such as IXIA, MATLAB, LABVIEW, Python, and PowerShell

+ Must be able to troubleshoot COMSEC issues in support of test and engineering events.

+ Must be able to operate crypto devices, load keys, build tunnels (VPNs).
